Book Description

An eager young scientist has brought to life a dangerous flesh-eating dinosaur by crossing its DNA with that of his pet dog, Freddie. Can Secret Agent Jack Stalwart capture the dinosaur before it destroys New York City? --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Excerpted from Secret Agent Jack Stalwart.: The Escape of the Deadly Dinosaur (Secret Agent Jack Stalwart... S.) by Elizabeth Singer Hunt, Paula Haughey, Brian Williamson, Dan Tyler, Martin Cater. Copyright © 2004. Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved.

Slowly, an enormous green head lowered itself through what used to be the doorway and into the hallway. It was so massive, that it barely fitted through the door frame. Its eyes, which were black and bulging, were roaming up and down the hall. The hundreds of teeth that lined its wide jaws were tall, thin and razor sharp. It was hungry, Jack thought, not only because it was drooling, but also because it seemed to be sniffing for prey. Based on the size of the head alone, Jack reckoned that the creature was at least twice the height of a fully grown man.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Its fearsome roar made Jack jump. Although he hadn’t yet seen its body, Jack recognized the head from Lewis Porter’s book. It was the head of the most ferocious carnivore of the Late Jurassic. It was the Allosaurus. And Thomas had brought it to life in his very own bedroom. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This is an enjoyable adventure story for James Bond wannabes! It's fairly small print but it has short chapters and loads of action. The basic plot is a scientist using DNA to turn his dog into a dinosaur. Probably for readers beginning to develop their reading talents well (7-9 year olds), but it can be enjoyed by almost anyone. Jack Stalwart is cunning and always thinks up ideas to save either a few or up to 1000 people. This particular story is set in New York although other 'Jack Stalwart' books are set in different countries. This one definitely makes me want to read more. I read this one in an afternoon.

Great for new readers 24 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I picked these books up for my six year old, who is reading slightly more advanced books than for hs age. He found them exciting to read aloud to us, and the short chapters meant we could read a little at a time without finding it too much of a slog. We chose to read alternate pages to each other in the longer chapters. The story was fast paced, with good cliffhangers at the end of each chapter making it exciting and leaving my son wanting to read more. The content wasn't too scary, and I think it would appeal to 6-9 yr olds quite well. You can't beat a good spy story for boys!!

Boys. 23 Sep 2010

This book was enjoyed by my 9 year old reluctant reader. I wanted something that would not be too "babyish" that he would pick up by choice an this series of books did the trick. He is excited for the next one.
