Having read several of these with my child, I was surprised that this book seems entirely inconsistent with the others. Though this is labelled as being suitable for children as young as seven, the violence, malice and mildly sexual content of this book is entirely inappropriate. In the first chapter an innocent man is shot in the leg with a harpoon for no apparent reason. It goes downhill from there. I'll be looking very closely at the remaining books in the series to check they're appropriate. It's disappointing that the publisher and author haven't been able to impose some sort of consistency across the series.

This book definately not suitable for 7 years old, or even 9 years old because of the violence and sex .
I am not sure of other books in this series, but for a caution, I am going to get all of them off the shelf.

My 6 year old nephew is a huge fan of the Jack Stalwart series. I always have a read through books before buying them for him (and quite often end up reading them aloud to him anyway) and there definitely isn't any sex and violence in this book!! It is a good, solid action adventure that had my nephew totally entertained from start to finish, perfect for his age as a beginner reader. Highly recommended.
