Book Description

6 Dec 2004 McKettricks (Book 3)
The youngest McKettrick brother, Jeb, is the wild one who never could stay out of trouble. And trouble is what he gets when he proposes to Chloe Wakefield. No sooner had he and the pretty schoolteacher tied the knot than Jeb discovers she's already married! After a major dustup with Chloe in a Tombstone barroom, an irate Jeb heads back to the Triple M Ranch, certain that his chances of winning the spread in a marriage race with his brothers are dashed. Now Chloe has come to Indian Rock, hoping to find her beloved uncle John and a much-needed teaching post. But when she unexpectedly crosses paths with Jeb, her rage -- and passion -- flare even stronger than back in Tombstone. Chloe never intended to mislead Jeb about her previous marriage to a scoundrel of a man. But when she finds out Jeb needs a bride and a baby in order to inherit the Triple M, she is livid. Learning to trust will be the hardest part of this mixed-up marriage -- until a stagecoach robbery and the return of a dangerous stranger prove to Jeb and Chloe that they need each other to love and honour as long as they both shall live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brides and Brothers 29 Nov 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Perhaps watching "Seven Brides For Seven Brothers" made me envision the McKettrick Brothers as Howard Keel's siblings in the show, but I found this to be an enjoyable story set in a believable setting. Miller's story of a young man, Kade McKettrick, with a slew of mail-order brides only to eventually marry Mandy the step-daughter of an outlaw, has enough of a back story to lend a plausibility. There are surrounding characters and situations which show the difficulty of frontier life in the 1880s. There are engaging sub-stories which help carry the plot forward and make all the characters more real. At one point I was led to tears. The reviews from respected journalists and authors singing Miller's praise are accurate and honest. I shall have to order the 3rd of this series, although I know how it will end (ish), I am now sure it will be a wonderful read.

I first read one of Lindas' books while staying with family in Canada, I had not heard of her before this! So I did not know what theme these books about, but I really enjoyed reading the three books in the trilogy!! They are light easy reading, I cant put them down till I have finished them! I shall certainly be ordering more from Amazon!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Firey! 15 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Book 3 of 4 and the series gets better and better.

Jeb and Chloe are both convinced they are right and will listen to no-one else! Stubborn is not the word and neither one is willing to give which makes their journey to love a bumpy one with many explosions thrown in for good measure. All Jeb's trauma is helped along by Angus, Rafe, Kade and Holt who cannot help but interfere - even Becky adds her two-penneth!

This series is so sucessful simply because the characters are so well written and welcome you to the family with open arms. You really feel you are part of the family.

This is advertised as a trilogy, however the next book McKettrick's Choice follows on from this directly with the final single brother Holt.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first western was really good... 30 Jun 2005
By Nicole Wagner - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Jeb McKettrick is a wild one who never kept out of trouble. The story opens as he is running, literally, from one such example, a fiery heroine named Chloe. Chloe catches him between the bulkhouse and a pile of manure surrounded by angry chickens and the story explodes into action. We discover that the beautiful Chloe is actually Jeb's wife who was abandoned after one hour of marriage, discarded hastily once Jeb discovered she was already married. Chloe argued that he was her only husband and if he would just listen he would understand....but he is a man.

Generally I am a Regency only kind of gal, but I was desperate for something to read and this was sold in the hospital gift shop. Somehow this book was meant for me because I thought it was splendid. The cast of characters was so rich, I want to read the whole series. A definite good buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Weekend Read 17 July 2006
By Heather - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This was the perfect story for curling up on the sofa with a cozy blanket, and a sleeping cat or dog at your side. Jeb and Chloe's story was heartwarming.

I enjoyed that their story began after things between Jeb and Chloe had already become very developed. I felt as though I was thrust right into the story from the very beginning, and couldn't put it down for very long until the last page. Jeb and Chloe are head strong, yet you can't help but fall in love with them.

I'm looking forward to reading the other novels in this series. And I'm hoping that I will get a change to read Holt's story as well. He's such an interesting character, I think his would be a wounderful tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent :-) !!! 3 Aug 2009
By Bookworm - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I just love Linda Lael Miller. For the handful of books I've read of hers that I haven't cared for, there are ones like this that more than make up for it!! Who couldn't fall in love with Jeb and his carefree, reckless, wild ways? He reminded me of Jesse in the McKettrick contemporary series, and if I go back and look, it wouldn't surprise me if he's a descendant of Jeb's.

The book started out lively, and stayed that way until the end. Chloe was a perfect compliment to him and I loved the relationship between all the brothers, including Holt. Miller has such a way of writing that makes you feel as if you're living right back in those times too, and I love some of her phrases, such as when Jack wants to bait Lizzie with a doll, and Sue Ellen tells him that would be akin to teasing a wildcat with a stick. It gives you such a great insight into what these characters are really like.

I did, however, have just a couple problems with the storyline. First, if I remember correctly, in Shotgun Bride, Emmeline had a miscarriage somewhere in the story, and it was devastating to both her and Rafe. But yet, in Secondhand Bride, Angus keeps harping on his boys to produce grandchildren, wondering why nobody has. I thought that was just a tad callous, given what happened to Rafe and Emmeline. My second problem is that, while I know Miller likes to produce brave and strong heroines, but given that Jack knew where Chloe was, and that she was living alone in a little cottage at the edge of a barren little town, and knowing that he was after her, threatening her, frightening her, it just doesn't seem conceivable that she would have stayed there alone at night. And then slept. I can't imagine anyone being that brave, particularly when she knew how dangerous he was. And why was it that her and Jeb's divorce was going to take a year, but she divorced Jack much more quickly?

All in all, however, it was a really good read and I stayed up half the night to finish it. Being tired at work today was worth the read.

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty good 16 Nov 2011
By julesm - Published on
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I didn't read the other books in this series, but I enjoyed this one, and it wasn't hard to catch up on what had already happened. My only problem is that there wasn't nearly enough of the two main characters together. I liked the Holt and Lizzie side story, but it started to dominate the whole book. Then there were parts about Sue Ellen and the Jessup kids thrown in, and I was thinking, "what do I care about these people? I want to read about Jeb and Chloe!" The little they were together, I thought the banter was funny while waiting for them to get past their stubborness and realize they belong together.
