Second Wind is a story set in West Yorkshire. It follows the fortunes of a group of senior citizens who, through an acrimonious situation that arose in the orchestra that they were members of, found themselves redundant.
Encouraged by Frank, the main character, a forty something professional composer and musician, they form the New Albion Dance Orchestra.
When it comes to music Ray Hobbs knows his stuff. A musician himself, his knowledge and love of music very quickly becomes evident to the reader.
The characters are well crafted and believable. They will appeal to all but especially to anyone who has spent more than ten minutes in West Yorkshire.
There is, of course, romance in the story. Against the odds Frank finds the perfect relationship having gone through the trauma of a divorce.
This is a fascinating book written that will appeal to just about anyone. Its strength lies in its believability. I thoroughly enjoyed it and heartily recommend it.
