It is certainly a rarity for an album to show up that does justice to the music of the east as well as making the best use of electronic styles. Simply, this does ! Take Greg Hunter - one of the most technical wizards of electronic music (previously producing music as part of The Orb and then Subsurfing) ; combine this with Amir Abdel Magid - an Egytian master of classical music, and this is the result. Deeply mysterious, intricate and subtly varied - I can't really rate this album higher. Each subsequent listening uncovers more of its layers of rythms. It is the perfect chill out album for anyone who likes their tunes to come with intelligence. Particular winners for me are .... all of the tracks ! It's only a shame that there aren't more of them (the cd's only 43 minutes long). In Greg's typical self critical way, I know that he wasn't entirely happy with the 'finished' artical.... but if this is him on a bad day, I'd like to see him on good form !!!! Do your ears and brain a favour - get this !!

this has to be one of the best albums of this type of music i have ever heard.encompassing as it does both eastern style instrumentation combined with a western style of chill out music.from the first track 'til the dying echoes of the final track the listener is transported to a myriad of far off places.echoes of vast open sandscapes surround the listener conjouring a mirage of dunes and pyramids.its as if a bustling egyptian world has opened up for you to see.the perfect album to "chill out" to or even do the housework.you can never tire of listening to this, each listen allows you to glimpse further inside the music.definately one that will never be far from your cd player.

This one I bought by impulse, giving some credit to the reviews I read. It was said that Greg Hunter, the man beyond this production, took four years finding inspiration and mixing oriental music with his own electronic sounds to finish this album. I listened this cd 1...2...3...10...20 times, trying to hear something that made me enjoy the music, but nothing raise my attention...

Each time I heard it the more difficult was to bear what I was listen and all I want was that it finishes quickly. In terms of composition, there is really nothing new in this work. The production lacks progressiveness and talent. The harmony, of so little catchy, becomes boring. A cd with music that finds support on annoying vocalization, regular traditional instrument's solos and boring emphasizing beats, all echoing along with some insipient electronics in an often irritating cadence.

This is not the combination of electronic and oriental music that is pleasant to my ears and I was really pissed of that I bought this. No wonder that we never heard about Alien Soap Opera no more! Positive points of this cd are, the name of the project, the cover design and the total time (43').

Dub Mastery 7 Mar 2001
By Jeffrey Kihn - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Greg Hunter is a dub master. From his early remix and production work with the Orb, to his Subsurfing LP on the Apollo label, to this excellent disc, Hunter's navigational skills at the mixing board are unrivaled. Recorded in Cairo, this album features the talents of Egyptian classical musicians, recording live in the studio through Hunter's heady treatments. If you like Banco de Gaia or early Orb, keep an eye out for Greg Hunter's name and you won't be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this cd and hope that it will be sequelled! The levels of subtlety take a few replays to hear but the impact is tremendous.
