On the face of it, Leslie is a healthy, well-adjusted 14-year-old girl. She should be happy, yet she's not. If only she were thinner. But "thinking thin" becomes a dangerous obsession and Leslie's weight drops to five stone, threatening to destroy her and the whole fabric of her family life.

Deborah Hautzig opened her heart and poured it onto the page offering a gripping and very personal account of her journey though anorexia. It gives an interesting insight into the treatment methods she experienced. This book isn't written to give you recovery tips, although I feel as though I now have a better understanding of the illness and how very easily eating disorders can be triggered. Children are very vulnerable - they take everything to heart. This book will show you the repercussions.

This is a short story as it took me within two days to read and i'm a slow reader! so if you are looking for a bigger novel this probably won't saticfy you, however the acctual story was amazing! i too have, and still am suffering with a ED and everything that Leslie felt i've felt too. It was very touching and makes me greatful that i am slowly recovering! i would definatly recomend it.

I bought this book years ago when I was suffering from anorexia nervosa. It helped me to understand what was really going on in my head. I'm not completely healthy now, but every now and then I'll read Second Star to the Right and it helps me.
Everyone should read this book to try to understand.

I did enjoy this book, but was almost put off by the slow start. The first 70/80 pages are interesting but not really linked to the featured subject of the book. Read more
