Book Description

The London 2012 Olympic medalist on his stunning comeback.

Mark Todd's eventing career is the stuff of legends and encompasses one of the greatest sporting comebacks of all time.

When he 'retired' from competing in eventing in 2000, he had already been named 'Rider of the Century' for his natural empathy with a horse and his extraordinary success, which included back-to-back Olympic gold medals, five Burghley wins and three Badminton victories. He has also show jumped to Olympic level and trained winners on the racecourse. Considered a legendary horseman by his peers, he seemed to have done it all.

He returned to train racehorses in his native New Zealand but, eight years later, the idea of a comeback took root, part dare, part personal challenge to see if he could still cut it in a changed sport. Within eight months, he was riding at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and in 2011 he hit the headlines by becoming the oldest rider to win Badminton. This was soon eclipsed by his stunning win at the London 2012 Olympics, however.

The story of his progress from dairy farmer to world renown, is told with typically laid-back humour, but it reveals the fierce determination, discipline and personal sacrifice which lies behind the relaxed outlook.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Story of Toddy 18 July 2012
By KMA
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really recommend this auto-biography of Mark Todd - Superstar of the eventing world. It had me in stitches in some parts with bitdabout his antics as both a young rider and in his current phase of life. Its a book which when you startyou do not want to put down as you want to know what he does next. I found it imensely interesting reading about his life and about the brilliant horses he has owned and ridden during his career. Did not realise he knew so many people around the world, many of them you may recognise and may even have met yourself over the years if you are into the horse riding / competition world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mark Todd - rider of the century 20 Jun. 2014
By Bridie
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Anyone, including a non horse rider, would enjoy this great read of a consummate sportsman. I enjoyed Mark Todd first book "So Far so Good" [great title] now his "Second Chance" was a further journey through his extraordinary life in top competition, warts and all, an honest and very readable account of his trials, tribulations and triumphs with horses - the great leveller - highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Toddy! 22 Jun. 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed reading about this quite normal lad having a great time. He seemed to have partied and enjoyed his way to success, not taking himself too seriously, rolling with his hardships but still grinding on with a charm which makes him such a popular fella. Brilliant read that I couldn't put down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth a second look 2 Jan. 2013
Format:Hardcover
I don't usually go for autobiographies, but this is worth a second look. A great insight into the evolution of eventing as well as a personal story of Toddy's rise and fall and rise again. Shame it finishes just before London 2012, I would love to read what Toddy's thoughts were on that event.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating 26 April 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you are into three day eventing, this is for you. This is story of an amazing return to the top of the sport. It just demonstrates what a great equestrian Mark Todd is. Some of the writing feels a little clunky, perhaps because he was assisted to write the autobiography.
