5.0 out of 5 stars seba-do buy this album 22 Jun 2005
By D. Macphee VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
I first heard his album in 1992 (just after it came out). At first I thought it was very quirky and melodic and had a strange 'Wicker Man' folk vibe to it. Having listened to it ever since, and each time discovering something new within its 23 tracks, I can honestly say that it is the most important album in my extensive collection (which includes the Beatles, Velvets, Pixies, Flaming Lips etc).

Every single track is a joy, whether it's the venomous 'Freed Pig', the heartbreaking 'Spoiled' or the incredible freak out of 'As the World Dies, the Eyes of God Grow Bigger'. This is a seBADoh album that commands attention and will reward in spades.

My only advice is that, if you're a seBADoh fan (I guess you are) or at the age where you want to discover something truly unique and exciting then buy Sebadoh III, no matter what the cost. It's not as instant as 'Harmacy' or 'The Sebadoh' but it's the only one you'll be listening to in 20 years time.

There are rumours of a reissue coming soon. Lets start praying!

Absolutely essential. An impossible 6 stars out of 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential!! 9 May 2007
Format:Audio CD
This is undoutbly Sebadoh's strongest album. Released back in 1991 it hasn't aged a bit. Ignoring the first 2 albums before it, sebadoh 3 is basically the formula for the rest of their career and lou barlow at his best (the bassist bumped out of dinosaur jr). From lo-fi acoustics to eccentric hardcore bursts of noise and everything in between! It has all three band members doing their own songs and stuff, a bit like the beatles white album. I've got the original copy but the re-issue got a load of extras tracks which is a bigger reason to get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Treat From Start to Finish 15 Oct 2007
Format:Audio CD
If Lo-Fi American Indie rock is your thing then Sebadoh's `III' really ought to be one of your favourite albums of all time, because this record is at the very top of its genre.

Twenty-three tracks are clear evidence of the wealth of ideas and creativity on display. `The Freed Pig' is an obvious highlight with its blistering guitar work and amusingly caustic (and in places self-critical) account of Lou Barlow's bust-up with J. Mascis, but many other boxes are ticked: heartfelt and beautiful acoustic songs like `Total Peace' and `Spoiled' sit happily alongside experimental (with the emphasis on mental) rock wig-outs like ` Limb By Limb', `Supernatural Force' and the insane closing track `As The World Dies...'.

In between, musical styles and production values vary greatly but one thing which stays consistent is the quality of the song-writing. This is one of the very few Sebadoh records where the listener is not waiting with varying degrees of impatience for the next Lou Barlow song to come along. On `III', Eric and Jason's songs, although different, are the equal of Lou's. This is music played for the love of it and is a treat from start to finish.
