I first heard his album in 1992 (just after it came out). At first I thought it was very quirky and melodic and had a strange 'Wicker Man' folk vibe to it. Having listened to it ever since, and each time discovering something new within its 23 tracks, I can honestly say that it is the most important album in my extensive collection (which includes the Beatles, Velvets, Pixies, Flaming Lips etc).
Every single track is a joy, whether it's the venomous 'Freed Pig', the heartbreaking 'Spoiled' or the incredible freak out of 'As the World Dies, the Eyes of God Grow Bigger'. This is a seBADoh album that commands attention and will reward in spades.
My only advice is that, if you're a seBADoh fan (I guess you are) or at the age where you want to discover something truly unique and exciting then buy Sebadoh III, no matter what the cost. It's not as instant as 'Harmacy' or 'The Sebadoh' but it's the only one you'll be listening to in 20 years time.
There are rumours of a reissue coming soon. Lets start praying!
Absolutely essential. An impossible 6 stars out of 5.
