Product Description

Maxine lives in Number 7, the peeling Jewish house, where she has to stand on cushions to change light bulbs because she doesn't know anyone well enough to ask for the use of their stepladder. She is also trapped in an unsatisfactory relationship with her misanthropist boyfriend Warren who "sits there baiting or attacking people in the road" and is indiscriminate with his prejudices. She is longing for a summer of excitement and change.

Mark lives at Number 12 in the shadow of his witty boyfriend Guy who has names for all the regulars of the seaside cul-de-sac. Madame Two Swords ("starchy, laundered woman in her fifties who wears a yellow headscarf looking like a duster"), Acnes Anonymous ("blank teenager permanently wired for sound"), Love's Wet Dream ("lovey-dovey young couple who seem to be perpetually entwined") and Miss Bronte who "looks like a Cathy or an Emily or a Jane" are just a few.

Then the rich and mysterious Hassan, his family, and his sidekick, Rashid, move into Number 8. Beautiful and arrogant, Hassan soon stirs the emotions of his near neighbours, during a long sizzling summer full of property acquisition, Parking Rage, racial abuse and mounting passion which reaches a climax over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Was I there? 6 Jun 2011
By Chris
Format:Kindle Edition
I felt I could have been there! The location and characters are so vividly described (the prose is excellent) that I felt that it could have substituted for an A-Z of the area. The writing style is distinct and unique, and a complex web of relationships is portrayed as they unfold over the course of the book. The plot is occasionally a little nebulous but for total immersion in a place and its inhabitants over the course of a single English summer, this couldn't be bettered.

4.0 out of 5 stars A bit like a soap opera, I loved it! 21 Oct 2011
By Tiffany A. Harkleroad - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
There are a lot of different people living in the apartments at Seaview Terrace, and they form interesting relationships among themselves. Some are leaving their partners, some are mourning the loss, some are opening up a new chapter in their lives, and some are looking back on their lives with a bit of regret. But all of them have their own stories to tell.

I am a sucker for books that tell good stories about people's lives, which I think this book does brilliantly well. We meet many many characters, and hear stories from many different points of view. However, the characters are so distinct and well developed, we have no trouble following the path of the storyline. The only exception to this that I found was the same sex couple that gave all the tenants nicknames; those confused me a bit, probably because I was rushing to read the book to find out what would happen next.

I really enjoyed the stories of the people in this book. It was like a little soap opera or mini series playing out. It reminded me of the tv show Knots Landing; similar instances of high drama and human interest. Never getting overly deep into one storyline, the book instead masterfully weaves them all together. All in all, a nice fun read.

5.0 out of 5 stars another brilliant book by the talented kate rigby! 11 Sep 2011
By Vince Clarke - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
i can't rave enough about how fantastic kate rigby is as a writer! this is the third five star review i've written for one of her books. so not only am i a great fan. i also want to spead the word to those that love to read. if you enjoy crisp. thought-provoking writing with a walloping big dose of hilarity. pick up a kate rigby book! you will not be disappointed!

kate turns her pen or more likely computer on a wide array of subjects and genres, and handles each one like the professional she so clearly is. seaview terrace deals with an interesting crew of people living in and moving in/out of the seaview terrace complex by the seaside. neighbors and their filthy laundry flapping in the wind for all of us to enjoy reading in. there is love, lust, intrigue, passion, violence...these people have it all. most interestingly, though, it is a peek into the state of living in britain today, a snapshot frozen in time of the different generations and their relationships with each other. fascinating stuff! get your copy today....you wont be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating! 3 Jun 2011
By Yvonne - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This tale of the neighbors on Seaview Terrace is a fascinating look into modern England. The relationships between the characters of different backgrounds (chavs, Iranians, gays) and how they interact is a page turner. Highly recommended!
