5.0 out of 5 stars You have to read this book !!!!!! 23 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I hate it when the reviews are excellent for a book but you have no idea what it is about so here goes: Set during the American war of Independence, the story tells of Rahab (Rae) a young woman frustrated by her seeming inability to help the colonial cause. Thinking that she is helping, her sister in law Ashley asks if she can deliver a message on behalf of the rebel cause to a local tavern. Once at the tavern Rae is mistaken for a barmaid (and worse besides) and thus the trouble ensues. Following a rapid escape aided by the stunning Jericho Smith, she promptly faints and loses her memory. Smith of course believes his companion to be a harlot and so the situation worsens. The rest of the book follows the pair through adventure after adventure as they fight and then succumb to their mutual attraction. I was not expecting much from this book and as I had not read others in the series I was not sure I would appreciate all the secondary characters. I found however that this did not lessen the charm of possibly the best book I have read. Impossible to put down, you are constantly bombarded with dangerous situations that the two get trapped in. Jericho is a lovable rogue who you fall for instantly and also has a few secrets up his sleeve to keep the action moving nicely.

Rae proves a feisty and hilarious heroine. Some of Rae's mishaps had me laughing out loud, I must admit that the loss of memory was a tad unrealistic but who cares? Other times my heart was beating so fast it is unreal. This book is a true gem from start to finish. The way that the story links up is great and the hunt at the end inspired. I'll definately be reading more of Jo Goodman's books ! I recommend this to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars better than the last.... 13 Sep 2000
By Ginger L. Savage - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I picked up the last of the McCellan series, Noah's story a few years ago and have been anxious to read the first two books. I was left flat by Salem's story but fell in love with Rahab and Jericho's story. Don't let the bibical names fool you! Rahab or Rae or Red, goes on a secret mission for her sister-in-law and finds herself murdering a man and then unable to remember a thing. Sure it sound cliche but it never is under Ms. Goodman's masterful pen. Rae's hero is Jericho Smith a man who comes to the colonies to reinvent himself and must return to England to save the entire McCellan family. The story of Rahab and Jericho can anger you, it will frustrate you and you will ultimately fall for their profound commitment to each other. Ms. Goodman creates women who are strong but not unreasonable so, women who can fall into terrible danger and yes, need help out. I have long been a fan of her work and find her to be one of the single most unappreciated authors in the Romance Genre. Only read the Thorne Brothers series or the Dehenny's series and you find complex character and fantastic writing that forces you to think. I am anxious to re-read Noah's story and see if it comes up to the standard of Seaswept Abandon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, if a bit disturbing... 9 May 2005
By T. D. Bell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A good love story except for two things. As in the 1st and 3rd books of this series the hero rapes the heroine, and is forgiven. Rape is treated like the trauma it inflicts just goes away if the rapist is someone you love. If these two things don't bother you, you will probably enjoy the detailed romance of Rahab McClellan and Jericho Smith, aka Goeffrey Hunter-Smythe, the Earl of Stanhope. Oh yeah, nothing the heroine does is ever right, or works out right. Three cheers for the feminist movement.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite book of all times 30 Jun 2001

Jo Goodman's SEASWEPT ABANDON is the best book I have ever read. I couldn't put it down and read through the night. I bought this book the day it came out because I had thoroughly enjoyed CRYSTAL PASSION, but this book was far better than I could have ever hoped. The plot is excellent and the characters are wonderful and believable. Rae and Jerichoare simply my favorite characters, and I strongly recommend this book to everyone. I have just finished SEASWEPT ABANDON for the fourth time, and it was just as enthralling as the first. I'm eagerly awaiting Noah's story in TEMPTING TORMENT, but I don't think that it will be able to beat SEASWEPT ABANDON. Thank you, Jo Goodman, for writing such a wonderful book!
