seasonal preserves 11 Sep 2010

Format:Hardcover
What a fantastic book. We have an allotment and therefore do not like to waste produce cos its too hard to grow it in the first place. I found all the recipes i've tried to date to be very easy to follow and were without fuss. A great book for all cooking abilities (there's even recipes for the dreaded courgette glut)

One season is not long enough to make all the delicious things in each chapter. We have made around 60% of the recipes from Spring and Summer, and have met with universal approval. We can't wait for Autumn! I particularly like the savoury preserves such as dill pickles and courgettes in walnut oil. Easy to use, and so many appealing recipes.

Awesome Recipes, Questionable Preserving Instructions 31 Dec 2011
By Burgundy Damsel - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The recipes in this book deserve five stars without question; from your standards like strawberry jam to some of the most unique, delectable- looking dessert ideas I've seen, this is an impressive collection. Clementines in brandied caramel, sloe gin, hot mango chutney - you won't find this variety anywhere else.

Unfortunately, the preserving instructions in this book deserve one or two stars at best. The author advocates using recycled jam or other glass jars with the same kind of white screw-on lids you see at the grocery store or wax disks with plastic wrap. Though she does sterilize jars before using and sometimes suggest an oven curing, there is no proper canning information for anything!

These excellent recipes could be wonderful if you store them in the fridge or safely gifted to friends who you know will use them in short order, but if you're looking for longer term storage plan to look up proper processing times in your Ball Blue Book or equivalent canning guide because you won't find that information here.
