Product Description

"All in all, I think that Damien Kelly's work makes Stephen King's work look like books of nursery rhymes."

What people are saying about Season of the Macabre...
"They make you think." "Making me crave for more." "He spends the whole anthology playing with the reader's mind."

Overview:
 - A frightened child, turning to the only person who can save him.
 - A prison full of vicious inmates, generously judged by a seasonally kind man.
 - A young, weary couple, suffering a strange harassment from the unlikeliest of places.
 - A cold night that claims its own, and the hope of a man who walks with the darkest of damnations.

These and other stories of the macabre are here to delight and chill the reader.

From the winner of the Octocon 2011 Short Story competition (with "Intervention Paradox"), Season of the Macabre combines three of Damien's other short story collections (Cold Comfort Child, A Polite Exchange, and The Rare Gift), into one master volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Surprises Just Keep Coming 26 Jun 2012
Format:Paperback
This was a very good, very surpising read. The collection of stories are kept short and to the point, which works brilliantly with the twists and shocks that feature in them all. I really could not pick a favourite out of them as they were all so different but all so devilish.
Some of the twists really were so good that you had to re-read the story to notice things, very much in a 'Sixth Sense' way.
This was my first reading of work by Damien Kelly and will not be my last.

4.0 out of 5 stars And start the wavey line machine 17 May 2012
By Robert Casey - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Enjoyable well executed repeated twists to the mind but the repetition of the twists occurrence (not the execution or the method) left me a smidge jaded. In one or two cases lost its unknown menace in the unreality of the situation.

Overall enjoyable, well writen and would recomend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting holidays 19 Oct 2012
By Knittingstix - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Mr. Kelly writes beautifully about horrifying things. The quiet horror reminds me of Roald Dahl as well as the better episodes of the Twilight Zone. The stories are holiday related and most have a surprise ending. The collection is both wonderful and disturbing. Each story is like a faceted jewel. I didn't care for the subject matter in some of the stories, but the writing and the endings never failed to impress.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creepily distrubing! 19 Jun 2012
By Kiki Deister - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Season of the Macabre is a compilation of three previous volumes of short stories by the author, Cold Comfort Child, A Polite Exchange, and The Rare Gift. I am a sucker for good macabre fiction, and this book delivered that. All of the stories had a holiday theme, but definitely not of the "fluffy, happy bunny" variety! One part horror, one part creepy, and one part disturbing made for a fantastic set of short stories. I don't know that I could even pick one as my favorite because they were all equally creepily, wonderfully, disturbingly great stories. What I liked is that the author stepped to the left of center with some of these stories. They had twists and turns that took the story places that isn't usual, which made them even more exciting to read. I also really enjoyed his matter-of-fact style that created some characters that were completely unapologetic for their actions. That just added to the "creepy and disturbing" factor1 Fantastic read!
