Book Description

9 May 2000
This pioneer of the romantic fiction genre renews her grateful readers' acquaintance with old friends, the "Birminghams of The Flame" and the "Flower" and "The Elusive Flame" fame. This time it's Brandon's younger brother Jeffrey and his off-again, on-again marriage to beautiful English import Raelynn that captivates audiences. Circumstances - and a murderous villain - have conspired to separate newlyweds Jeff and Raelynn.Raelynn has been broadsided by the accusation that Jeff has impregnated a young serving girl and refused to acknowledge his child. Jeff, of course, vehemently denies the accusation, but Raelynn is unsure she can trust her handsome husband. Just when the young lovers manage to mend their quarrel, a pregnant Raelynn is horrified to discover Jeff standing over the body of the murdered serving girl with the murder weapon in his hand. Throw in a ruthless merchant with designs to possess Raelynn at any cost and a mysterious murderer with a secret worth killing for, and you've got a classic from veteran author Woodiwiss.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good although not as good as her stuff of old 20 Feb 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I did generally enjoy this book although I do agree that it does not hold a candle to some of her earlier books (especially Ashes in The Wind). However I would recomend any lover of the romance genre to try this book, as it certainly is no worse than some of the books out there. Indeed I feel I was only slightly dissappointed at the story because I compared it too much to the previous books I had read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dissappointing at best 29 Jan 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Unfortunately, as the years have passed, Kathleen Woodiwiss has dissappointed me time after time. After reading books such as: Shanna, The Wolf and the Dove, The Flame and the Flower, I expected if not better, certainly the same quality and intrigue as those. That's not the case in this book. The book was dull, unexciting and certainly the plot had no "meat" whatsoever. It was unbelievable and I really had to work to finish the book (mainly because I paid for it). I don't recommend it to anyone who has read the books above mentioned, I guarantee they will be utterly dissappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars story of Jeff 9 Feb 2011
By Mrs. A. Wright VINE™ VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Glad to read the story of Jeff. I was always sorry that the meeting with Raelyn was only a short story in 4 weddings and a Kiss and felt he was such a good character that he deserved more. I think that the book would have been more cohesive if the meeting had been the beginning of a Season Beyond a Kiss thus making one book. I loved the characters of Jeff and Raelyn and of course it was great to meet Brandon and Heather and see how they were all doing. You can pick up a little of their story later in The Elusive Flame.
If Im being honest I thought the plot heavy and slow going but the characters lifted it slightly. I rate it 4 stars because of these characters as I think Ms Woodiwiss does excellent characterisations but I think the plot lets them down
