Product Description

The entire sixth season of the satirical US television series (and spin-off from Robert Altman's 1970 film), which depicts the crazy antics and the sexual adventures of Captain 'Hawkeye' Pierce (Alan Alda), Captain 'Trapper' John McIntyre (Wayne Rogers), Major 'Hotlips' Houlihan (Loretta Swit), Major Frank Burns (Larry Linville) and Corporal 'Radar' O'Reilly (Gary Burghoff). They all work in a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War and the black humour of the medical team is contrasted with the terrible waste of life that they are exposed to. Episodes are: 'Fade Out, Fade In', 'Fallen Idol', 'Last Laugh', 'War of Nerves', 'The Winchester Tapes', 'The Light That Failed', 'In Love and War', 'Change Day', 'Images', 'The M*A*S*H Olympics', 'The Grim Reaper', 'Comrades in Arms (Part 1)', 'Comrades in Arms (Part 2)', 'The Merchant of Korea', 'The Smell of Music', 'Patient 4077', 'Tea and Empathy', 'Your Hit Parade', 'What's Up, Doc?', 'Mail Call Three', 'Temporary Duty', 'Potter's Retirement', 'Dr. Winchester and Mr. Hyde' and 'Major Toppo'.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful Series, as ever. 21 Oct 2010
By Paul
Format:DVD
Season 6 is a turning point in the whole M*A*S*H story. Episode 1 (Fade In, Fade Out) sees the departure of the lily-livered Frank Burns and the introduction of the aristocratic Charles Emerson Winchester III as his replacement.

Larry Linville (Burns) was not the only one to leave the series at this point; Executive Producer Gene Reynolds also left after the production of Season 5, with Burt Metcalfe and Alan Alda (Hawkeye Pierce) taking over the production responsibilities.
The tone of the show has now subtly changed with Alda and Metcalfe in charge; there is far more drama and a serious take on the issues portrayed in this season's episodes. One episode which really stands out is episode 2 (Fallen Idol) and I'll defy anyone whose watched seasons 1 to 5 so far not to have a lump in their throat or to even be in tears after watching this particular episode. Hawkeye gives what I think is one of his most dramatic and thought provoking tirades of the whole 11 seasons especially when you consider who it's actually directed at. I won't spoil it for you, but I do recommend that you watch it.

There are some lighter moments though and even moments of tenderness such as episodes 12 & 13 (Comrades in Arms) where Hawkeye and Margaret find themselves in a strange place and in each other's arms; kissing!!

All in all, an excellent series as always and thoroughly recommended if you're a fan of the comings and goings of the 4077th M*A*S*H.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting better all the time 2 May 2005
Format:DVD
Well, Season 6 is upon us, and M*A*S*H just keeps getting better. I'm too young to remember this from the first time round, so I blame my father for my love.
This season sees Frank leave, and the arrival of Charles Emerson Winchester, a suitable replacement for Frank. He immediately gets on everyone's nerves, including General Potter's.
Klinger's still up to his old tricks, and the series still packs a lot of laughs. If you liked the first 5 seasons, why not carry on the collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Opponent? 26 July 2005
Format:DVD
Season Six says goodbye to one of the main characters, and introduces a new opponent for Hawkeye and BJ in the form of a cultured and educated surgeon. This forms a new type of sparring, where culture and breeding are pitted against wit and experience - and Season Six allows us some of Hawkeyes' best laid plans yet... (keep an eye out for a not totally surprising romantic entanglement)...
