Amazon.co.uk Review
Searching for the Hows and Whys, the second album from Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, finds young DIY pop star Sam Duckworth taking creative steps outside of the bedroom studio within which he wrote and recorded the entirety of 2006's smart, folk-tinged The Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager. On production is producer/composer Nitin Sawnhey, which makes for a slightly fuller, more orchestrated sound. It's not at the expense of Duckworth's essential breeziness and light touch, however, which shines through on the likes of "Keep Singing Out" and "Waiting for the Monster to Drown", sunny concoctions of warm brass and skippy breakbeats. "Better Things" features a cameo by Duckworth's friend Kate Nash, although this one won't prove a crossover single, it being a melancholy number about a one-night stand, heavy with guilt and shame. Nor, probably, will "I Could Build You a Tower"--a sunny enough tune, but one which turns a sad eye to the Middle East, castigating "Islamophobes" and religious extremism ("But the gods they worship will never hear them call"). Weighty themes, but Duckworth pulls it off, just about: not just a studio whizkid, but a folk singer for our times. --Louis Pattison

Description
'Searching For The Hows And Whys' is the follow up to 2006's 'The Chronicles Of A Bohemian Teenager Part 1' from Southend's Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.
