A short, compelling novel - this book is a little gem. The characters float through the pages like ghosts - some good and some malevolent, but all haunting in their way.
It is the story of a girl, who is 11 (???) years old at the start of the book, when she witnesses her mother's suicide. A strange and surreal sequence of events then begins to unfold.
It is quite a hard book to categorize - it has some elements of (mild) horror and the story is a little bit sci-fi. If you were to ask me whether YOU would like it, I'd have no idea - but I CAN tell you that I did!
There are some editing issues (double words, their/there, threw/through), but then there were editing issues with the first edition of Kate Morton's last book, and she is a mega-star these days, so it is hard really to criticize the book or the author too much for that.
