5.0 out of 5 stars Your heart in your mouth..... 15 May 2012

This novel gripped me from the first page. It was the first book I bought on my new Kindle and I couldn't stop reading it. It is tragic, thought provoking, fast paced and draws you along with the key character to unravel her complicated life and the feelings it envokes. My heart was in my mouth each time I turned the page....

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging 5 Mar 2012
By Vicki
This is a wonderful first novel from the author, which swept me along on an engaging and thought provoking journey. The novel draws you into the protagonist's journey and every location is vivid and real, there were places I longed to stay longer and places that along with the main character I was ready to leave. You care about the characters from page one and they compel you to keep the pages turning to the very end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripped 29 Jan 2012
The very first sentence had me hooked. I knew this was a book I was going to love. And I was right. I read until I was so tired I had to sleep and woke early the next day to continue reading to the end. Disturbing, heartwarming, surprising - this book is all of these things and more. Much more. I sincerely hope this author has more novels in the pipeline.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Little Gem 31 Mar 2012
By Syd - Published on
A short, compelling novel - this book is a little gem. The characters float through the pages like ghosts - some good and some malevolent, but all haunting in their way.

It is the story of a girl, who is 11 (???) years old at the start of the book, when she witnesses her mother's suicide. A strange and surreal sequence of events then begins to unfold.

It is quite a hard book to categorize - it has some elements of (mild) horror and the story is a little bit sci-fi. If you were to ask me whether YOU would like it, I'd have no idea - but I CAN tell you that I did!

There are some editing issues (double words, their/there, threw/through), but then there were editing issues with the first edition of Kate Morton's last book, and she is a mega-star these days, so it is hard really to criticize the book or the author too much for that.
