by Jane Toller

This book is about the many interesting, curious, historic and comic situations in which Jane Toller has become involved during her life-long search for antiques-and in the course of learning about them.
It also includes chapters on the care and renovation of antique furniture and one on Treens, French Prisoner of War work, Love Tokens, St Christopher Place, and a Guide to Inns for antique seekers.Jane Toller is not only the doyenne of knowledgeable antique dealers, she is a woman with a sense of humour, and much commonsense and wholly without arrogance. All these traits come out in her writing, especially in this book. Her reminiscences therefore are often funny. They show moreover, the years of endeavour and industry needed to create skill and knowledge in dealing with antiques. However, Jane Toller's expert advice to amateurs on how to deal with and restore their old possessions is never highflown. It is always thoroughly practical and easy to follow.
