Book Description

1 Mar 2013
"In Search of the Winning System" charts Peter May's obsession with betting on horseracing. In this book the author of the acclaimed "Forecasting Methods For Horseracing" presents the story of his search for profitable methods, the mistakes he has made, the valuable lessons he has learned and the knowledge he has gained from like-minded racing enthusiasts who have contributed to his 40-year betting apprenticeship. Add to that a range of amusing anecdotes, a detailed analysis of the key race types, and a list of the betting systems he currently employs and you have a book that will make you smile, make you think and possibly make you money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not much meat on the punting front. 20 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
An engaging account of a lifetime spent searching for ways to outwit the bookies but frankly you won't find much here to help you improve your own punting. For that you'd be better off searching for Dr May's previous publications which deal solely with betting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended Reading 11 Mar 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A fascinating autobiographical account, which contains many betting ideas, from one of racing’s most respected authors.

Peter May imparts a lifetime of knowledge accumulated whilst engrossed in the research of systematic betting methods, as in his words, ‘using horseracing data to inform decisions and design a well structured, systematic approach to betting remains the most reliable way to return a long term profit from the sport’.

There is no doubt in my mind that fellow punters will not only enjoy but also benefit from reading this book; even if that realisation is not immediate for everyone, the benefits outlined within these pages of adopting a more long term strategy will have a subconscious effect on your betting.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard work 11 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Some quite laboured reports of past events, I feel this will need reading two or three times to enable me to pick methods or systems that I like.I have purchased Peter May books in the past and he obviously enjoys his racing and works hard in all areas to produce results that are profitable for him.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good bet 12 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback
Essential reading for anyone who follows the horses using a system-based approach.
This book will not tell you or show you how to win, but it will point you in the right direction and save you from making costly errors.
Peter May is probably the foremost name in the UK in this field and reading this you can see just how much time, patience and innovation he has invested in his work.
If you enjoy the 'Winning System', his ‘profile’ books will likely be of interest – these will help you to develop your own systems.
