This relaxed and informative read, a discussion of the plants to be found growing wild in the English countryside, feels like a stroll through the highways and byways of Britain with an engaging and knowledgeable friend.

What it isn't, is a search for wild asparagus; Roy Lancaster touches on this rarity briefly, but the book is generally a description of humbler, commoner plants.

The photographs are unspectacular by modern standards, but the line drawings are very well done.
