H.V at his best,
This review is from: In Search of Wales (Paperback)
Whether meeting Lloyd George, being mistaken for a famous musician, addressing a chapel Sunday School on the subject of the Pope or dispairing at the lot of the pitboys, this is Morton at his best. Like all good Morton, a mix of history with social attitudes and seasoned with plenty of humour. Much of 'In Search of Wales' can still be used as a guidebook. After this book was published, Morton was proclaimed bard at the national Eisteddfod. What better praise than this?

This is the usual H V Morton stuff, this time on Wales, and his readers will know what to expect.
However, this is the first new print book I have bought by this author, and I think I will go back to sourcing old copies of his work. I would much rather read an old copy printed at around the time that the book was written. Seems more appropriate somehow?

What an insight!,

Being of Welsh blood, but having only lived there briefly, I felt a tie to 'God's country' but without an understanding of why. This book, wittingly describes the real Welsh people and their culture. The author manages to give an historical overview of how Wales fought many armies until it forged an alliance with England. It includes the druids and lords, along with with the first tudor King, born in Wales. Reading the book has made me promise myself to go back and see this great country again with new, knowledgable eyes and respect. I cannot wait to see the sights he describes in such wondrous detail!
