Excellent introduction, best I've read. Not to be missed by anyone interested in Julian. More generally, Julian must be the greatest theologian ever to have written in English, and this is the best book about the background to her life and work.

Julian - who is he??? well for one hes a she and also one of the first women to write in english about her life and faith in the 1300s. The detective bit is a reclaiming of her and her history additionally Upjohn wonders whay it is her text survived not just over time but the politics of the ages too. If you can go with the wordy bits about visions etc it is an amazing tale and worth a read purely beacause it has survived and as such Jules has too
