Strongly echo the previous reviewer's impression,

The "I have a dream" speech is about 18 minutes long; but on this CD, only the last four minutes are present. All the great material at the start about defaulting on promissory notes has been cut. I would not have bought this record had I known that.

What about the rest of the speech?,

This review is from: In Search of Freedom (Audio CD)
This is a slightly mixed bag. Some items, notably the emotional 'I have a dream' speech, still as fresh today as when a quarter of a million heard it in Washington DC; also the eloquent history of non-violent protest contained within the address to the American Jewish Committee is riveting, as fine a justification for your actions as any I've heard. The one example of King's preaching, entitled 'Dr King's entrance to the civil rights movement' is not the best example I've heard, being somewhat over-simplistic and without the articulation of King speaking directly from the heart. Most of the rest are short, sometimes very short excerpts. Most disappointing of all is the shortening of the speech before the day of King's assassination, so the haunting and prophetic conclusion is omitted entirely. If anyone reading this is not familiar, I urge you to seek out the TV clip including King's words: "I have been to the mountain top and seen the promised land...I may not get there with you..." and concluding "mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the lord." You don't need to be religious for the hairs on the back of your neck to rise - arguably the most electric piece of public speaking the world has known, all the more so with the benefit of hindsight.
