2.0 out of 5 stars A jack of two trades..., 29 Oct 2002
By J. Kelly - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book seems to have a confused identity; half of the time it wants to be a serious biography of Vlad Tepes - or Vlad Dracula - a real-life Wallachian Prince. On the other, it wants to be a book on modern vampire myths and how they came to be, as well as taking a good long look at cinematic vamps. What with trying to juggle the two, the book doesn't do either any real justice. If you want to learn about just one of these two, buy a more dedicated book. If you want to learn about both, this is a decent enough starting point. I'd still recommend buying two dedicated books, however.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome insight into the real life Dracula. A bad, bad man!, 2 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Raymond McNally and Radu Florescu put years of research into this awesome and dark book. Facts dredged up from trekking round Romania and the Carpathian mountains, talking to the local people about the tyrant, Prince Vlad Dracula, aka Vlad Tepes, or "The Impaler". Bram Stoker based the vampire upon him, but in reality the man is far more evil and fascinating than any vampire could wish to be. A supreme military leader, fearsome warrior and a terrible and barbaric sovereign, the tales of his cruelty will make your blood run cold! Hats off to the authors, they have shed light on Wallachias most immense character, that would have otherwise been left to obscure folklore and hearsay to discover. The man is a legend, and the book is the offspring of many dedicated years of pursuit. Thankyou.
