The `Sean Lock Live' DVD is taken from his 2008 `Live' Tour, filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo. It takes him maybe 10 minutes to get fully into his stride, but from then on his performance is terrific, highly likeable and extremely funny. One of the best things about Lock is his comedic range - he seems to have the skill and the wit to find humour in almost anything, from The Wizard of Oz to Robbie Williams, recycling to geese, fancy dress parties to buying a new pillow. If that isn't enough, he ends the show in totally bizarre fashion, literally. One of the best stand-up DVDs I have ever seen.
I enjoyed it and definitely think it's worth watching. Gags about Robbie Williams and global warming were really enjoyable, oh and the gag about celebrities trying to defend themselves after making racist comments.
Overall, this is probably more of a DVD for 'proper' comedy fans, so if you see yourself as one, see this.
Comparing Sean with other comedians is pointless. The best comedians are always one-offs and their appeal is always a very personal choice.
If you like what you have seen of Sean on the TV or are intrigued to see how he handles a live standup set then you will enjoy this video.
But give it the benefit of the doubt for a while, and the reward pays dividends: when he finds his stride, Sean becomes as breathtakingly hilarious as ever as his dry sense of humour quickly grows on you, and it just gets better and better right up to the fantastic, ridiculous ending which will have you in stitches. You'll NEVER see it coming...
So bear with it. This is a good, solid comedy DVD, and I will happily watch it again and recommend it to others, including you. Give it a try!
His humour is quirky, witty and very funny.
He doesn't rely on swearing and jokes about smoking dope, which is the mainstay of many modern comedians, and finds humour in the most unlikely topics.
Sean Lock is a genius.
His ascerbic, sarcastic wit makes him one of the funniest comedians of our time. He takes the mick out of people but he doesn't push it too far. I think part of his appeal is not only the tone of voice he uses but his facial expressions; he has the overall performance down pat and it makes for pure comedy gold.
I also love his comedic rants, such as the roll-up cigarettes scenario which leads onto the McDonalds one. I also enjoyed this more, having been one of the "Wembley Response Squad" myself and knowing the guy he's on about.
I won't spoil it, but it's well worth watching.
