5.0 out of 5 stars genius 1 Dec 2008
By Mr Me
The only recording of Sean Lock's stand-up I had was his CD from about 2003 which is brilliant so I was delighted that he'd finally got round to a DVD - and contrary to what some reviewers have said, it was well worth the wait. Sean Lock is a genius, no question about that. If you want obvious punchlines, tired nob gags or 'ironically offensive' stuff, look elsewhere for your 'funnies' - but if you prefer very cleverly-crafted, surreal and /or totally original observations delivered by one of the best performers for donkeys then they don't come much better than Sean Lock.

3.0 out of 5 stars Worth a view if you love your comedy. 11 Feb 2009
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I've enjoyed Sean when I've seen him on various panel shows, so thought it was worth a punt.

I enjoyed it and definitely think it's worth watching. Gags about Robbie Williams and global warming were really enjoyable, oh and the gag about celebrities trying to defend themselves after making racist comments.

Overall, this is probably more of a DVD for 'proper' comedy fans, so if you see yourself as one, see this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sean at his best 2 Dec 2008
I was at the Hammersmith show and a cracking show it was! Sean was at his laconic best with his usual unique, lopsided view of life.
Comparing Sean with other comedians is pointless. The best comedians are always one-offs and their appeal is always a very personal choice.

If you like what you have seen of Sean on the TV or are intrigued to see how he handles a live standup set then you will enjoy this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Squirrels 6 Feb 2012
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
You may know Sean Lock from his regular appearances as a panellist on QI and 8 out of 10 cats, but are possibly unacquainted with his performances as a stand-up. He is, quite simply, one of the very best stand-up comedians there is. What makes him stand out is his own very particular and often personal brand of humour; quirky, often caustic and sometimes just plain weird, he links casual observations and daily experiences to the surreal in an intelligent and highly endearing manner, occasionally ranting about the things that irritate him. Throughout this he comes across as a very decent man with high moral standards and does not over rely on vulgar gags or bad language to get laughs.

The `Sean Lock Live' DVD is taken from his 2008 `Live' Tour, filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo. It takes him maybe 10 minutes to get fully into his stride, but from then on his performance is terrific, highly likeable and extremely funny. One of the best things about Lock is his comedic range - he seems to have the skill and the wit to find humour in almost anything, from The Wizard of Oz to Robbie Williams, recycling to geese, fancy dress parties to buying a new pillow. If that isn't enough, he ends the show in totally bizarre fashion, literally. One of the best stand-up DVDs I have ever seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius 2 Feb 2009

I first saw Sean Lock years ago at Jongleurs before he was famous. He was brilliant then and he's brilliant now.
His humour is quirky, witty and very funny.
He doesn't rely on swearing and jokes about smoking dope, which is the mainstay of many modern comedians, and finds humour in the most unlikely topics.
Sean Lock is a genius.

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes a moment to really get going 7 Mar 2010
By Paul Everdark VINE VOICE
Sean Lock's debut stand-up DVD is by no means a disappointment, but you wouldn't think so by the first 20 or so minutes. At first, it seems that Sean Lock isn't entirely suited to a stand-up format: those who enjoy 8 out of 10 Cats will know him as being one of, if not the most consistently funny panellist on the show, quickly improvising brilliant material on the spot. On stage, however, his prepared material seems...ill-fitting, somehow.

But give it the benefit of the doubt for a while, and the reward pays dividends: when he finds his stride, Sean becomes as breathtakingly hilarious as ever as his dry sense of humour quickly grows on you, and it just gets better and better right up to the fantastic, ridiculous ending which will have you in stitches. You'll NEVER see it coming...

So bear with it. This is a good, solid comedy DVD, and I will happily watch it again and recommend it to others, including you. Give it a try!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the bunch 1 Feb 2009
There were quite a few stand up DVDs released before xmas and this is certainly one of the best. If you love Sean Lock on 8 out of 10 cats, QI and all those other shows you will definatly love his DVD. He is a genius! As well as the show the DVD also has a tour diary which i found hillarious!

I've liked Sean Lock for a good couple of years since he started on Eight Out Of Ten Cats. This was the first DVD release I'd seen from him and it didn't disappoint.

His ascerbic, sarcastic wit makes him one of the funniest comedians of our time. He takes the mick out of people but he doesn't push it too far. I think part of his appeal is not only the tone of voice he uses but his facial expressions; he has the overall performance down pat and it makes for pure comedy gold.

I also love his comedic rants, such as the roll-up cigarettes scenario which leads onto the McDonalds one. I also enjoyed this more, having been one of the "Wembley Response Squad" myself and knowing the guy he's on about.
I won't spoil it, but it's well worth watching.
