You may know Sean Lock from his regular appearances as a panellist on QI and 8 out of 10 cats, but are possibly unacquainted with his performances as a stand-up. He is, quite simply, one of the very best stand-up comedians there is. What makes him stand out is his own very particular and often personal brand of humour; quirky, often caustic and sometimes just plain weird, he links casual observations and daily experiences to the surreal in an intelligent and highly endearing manner, occasionally ranting about the things that irritate him. Throughout this he comes across as a very decent man with high moral standards and does not over rely on vulgar gags or bad language to get laughs.
The `Sean Lock Live' DVD is taken from his 2008 `Live' Tour, filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo. It takes him maybe 10 minutes to get fully into his stride, but from then on his performance is terrific, highly likeable and extremely funny. One of the best things about Lock is his comedic range - he seems to have the skill and the wit to find humour in almost anything, from The Wizard of Oz to Robbie Williams, recycling to geese, fancy dress parties to buying a new pillow. If that isn't enough, he ends the show in totally bizarre fashion, literally. One of the best stand-up DVDs I have ever seen.
