These gloves have such a varied review, I just thought it may be interesting to know the following. I was up in the Galloway hills on a very cold day when it started to snow. My hands were lovely and warm and when I stopped for a bite to eat I noticed an icicle had started to form on the little finger of my left hand. I had no idea this had occurred and took a photograph of the glove.

From talking to people I think the best way to comment on the warmth of these gloves is: If you have warm hands on a walk they keep you warm but if you suffer from cold hands they may not be the best gloves for you. As for being waterproof, many hours on the Galloway hills have proved they are the best waterproof gloves I have ever purchased.

I was given these as a birthday present after I moaned about getting wet (and cold!) hands whilst sailing and wearing the usual sailing gloves. I tested them out whilst sailing in torrential rain off the West Coast of Scotland. To begin with, they kept my hands nice and dry (in comparison to my sailing companions who had very wet hands) but after a while, my hands did indeed get as wet and as cold as everyone elses. I have to agree with some of the reviews on here, I think the flaw is in the design of the cuffs which are not waterproof. Taking my gloves on and off throughout the day meant that the cuffs got wet and therefore eventually made the rest of the gloves wet.

The gloves aren't bad if you dont ever need to take them off (i.e a cyle ride) but for activities like skiing, sailing etc. where you are constantly putting your gloves on and off, I wouldnt recommend them.

Thee gloves ARE waterproof. However they do have a massive hole in them around where your hand goes into the glove, so unless you are careful water will get in. But you are not stupid so you know that already.

These gloves ARE windproof and keep the wind out superbly. However, they are not the best thermal insulators in the world. But on extra cold days this can be overcome with glove liners and thereby turning them into super-duper gloves with pretty good dexterity.

I recently took these gloves to the artic in the rain and the snow and they are brilliant. Just don't expect them to form a skin-tight seal around your wrist.

Good gloves but a poor fit for me
The Sealskinz ultra grips are well made and have a good quality feel to them.

Unfortunately I don't wear them much due to what I find to be an oddly proportioned fit. Read more
