The Seagate Momentus 5400.6 drive offers the best combination of performance, capacity, mobility and durability in a laptop hard drive. Using optional G-Force Protection technology, this drive provides added durability and robustness in the event of the accidental drops that can occur in strenuous mobile environments. With a capacity of 250 GB, the Momentus 7200.4 drive meets the demanding requirements of today’s notebook multimedia usage models.
Able to withstand up to 1000 Gs of shock, this highly reliable 2.5-inch drive is perfect for notebook or external storage applications. When a laptop is dropped, the most catastrophic damage to the hard drive occurs when the head scrapes across the surface of the disk, causing potential data loss. G-Force Protection technology protects the hard drive against shock by sensing when the system is in a free-fall state, moving the heads off the platter and locking them in place. All this happens within three-tenths of a second when a change in acceleration equal to the force of gravity is sensed. G-Force Protection technology results in added durability and reliability during accidental drops.

Arrived quickly, well packaged, easy to install in my macbook. Works absolutely fine. It has speeded up the mac from the 5200 rpm drive that it comes with and also has the extra capacity.

Got the drive to update an Acer 7520 laptop that only had a 60Gb disk. Was one of the cheapest 7200rpm 2.5" disks about. Easy to fit, quiet, fast, has been running with no problems for four months. Got an external case for the old disk as that was a cheap and easy way to access the old data. Reinstall o/s so speed improvement probably a combination of that and the higher rpm for the drive.

I bought one of these to replace a Seagate 120Gb, 5400 rpm, 8Mb cache drive in my fairly elderly Sony Vaio VGN-SZ1VP laptop. With the help of a couple of internet sites (how to open the Sony SZ1), a good set of small/jewellers screwdrivers, and plenty of care and patience, I now have a revitalised laptop.
I was keen to replace the original Seagate drive with a larger, faster model from the same manufacturer because they are good quality components. The decision was made easier by the bargain price (£70) for this 250Gb model. I don't seem to have had the noise/vibration problems that others have had with this faster-spinning drive. I think very careful installation, ensuring clearances and firm fixing (without over-tightening, of course ...) are important.
Other useful 'tools' I used for the job included the Seagate Drive Installation Wizard software available free from the manufacturers website. Instead of a lengthy re-installation of the operating system (Win XP) I just cloned the original drive on to the new one using the Seagate software and one of these very useful kits bought a couple of years ago - IOMAX USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter Kit with Power Adapter for 2.5/3.5/5.25 Inch SATA or IDE Drive.
