The GoFlex ultra-portable drive makes it easy to store, automatically and continuously backup and encrypt all your files with its preloaded software and plug-and-play USB 2.0 connectivity. But this is no ordinary external drive. As the core of the GoFlex Storage System, the GoFlex ultra-portable drive is the world’s most upgradeable external drive allowing it to deliver a truly customisable experience.
Access files with the interface of your choice
Use the standard USB 2.0 interface or upgrade to USB 3.0, FireWire 800 or powered eSATA by pairing the drive with the appropriate GoFlex upgrade cable (USB 3.0, FireWire 800 and powered eSATA cables sold separately).
Free your files
With the included NTFS driver for Mac, you can now interchangeably store and access files from PC and Mac computers without reformatting. The NTFS driver is simply installed once on your Mac computer, allowing it to access and store files in a PC compatible format (reformatting to HFS+ required to use backup software for Mac or Time Machine software).
Extend your content beyond the PC
The GoFlex ultra-portable drive is the heart of the GoFlex Storage System, and by combining it with other GoFlex Storage System products you can enjoy your content on your TV, access files from any PC or Mac computer on your network, from a mobile device or via the internet while on-the-go.

As part of the GoFlex Storage System, GoFlex upgrade cables enable you to change the interface on your GoFlex or GoFlex Pro ultra-portable drive to increase performance and to access your drive the way you want. The GoFlex upgrade cables (sold separately) are available in USB 3.0, FireWire 800 and powered eSATA which offer increased file transfer performance up to 10x faster than USB 2.0. I bought this drive so I could back up my entire PC hard drive.
I also purchased the goflex eSata connector so the drive would be far faster for read / write (given that I was going to be backing up hours of videos, some DVD's my music collection, 20000 photos etc).
But the drive would not stay powered up when writing to it using the eSata goflex interface so I had to go back to standard USB cable which comes with the drive.
The eSata goflex interface works fine with a 500Gbyte seagate drive which I also have so the cable was not the problem.
Apart from this issue, its a great drive with a small form factor for such a large amount of storage.
Its just a bit disappointing that the eSata drive connector does not work and hence it takes a very long time to back up a big PC hard drive...
People who are in the market for a 1TB drive are likely to be storing / backing up large quantities of data, hence a faster means of access is desirable.

Having been impressed after using my girlfriend's 500gb drive (Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex), and having been in dire need of a new drive for myself, I bought this. Within two days I had the drive in my hands, and I've been happy with it since.
I am using the drive with my Mac mini, my Windows PC, my girlfriends Windows laptop, and the Mac Pros at my university, all of which recognise it fine, and I've had no problems going across platforms.
I initially installed the setup files that came on the drive, but I prefer literally dragging and dropping rather than cluttering up my mac (the unit I mainly work with) with needless software, so files such as the Seagate Dashboard, for me, are now rendered completely redundant, (as is often the case with products such as this), and have been taken off the drive - I'd rather have more space on my drive for files and more space on my mac for a cleaner, quicker & more responsive mac!
Overall, have been very happy with the drive so far and, judging by the 500gb model, they are built to last too! Worth the money!

Its very good and pretty.
I like the size very much. Its handy and portable. No need to carry external powersupply.
Copy speed is not so good but i think for all 1 TB USB drive the speed will go slow.
Overall its a good product.
