Very Good Product, 20 July 2009

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Programme (What's this?)
Seagate have a lot of experience behind them, and now they have merged with Maxtor, the expertise has grown, and now both teams are working on a product that really should knock the socks off most home and office user. The staggering 1.5TB of space is immense - even for me who's a big fan of video and music, this can hold nearly 1000 DVD 5s, 360,000 MP3s and more images than you can take in a lifetime.
The sleek piano patented plastic outer is cool and looks good on the desk - and the unit is something like 15cm long, by 7.5cm wide. It stands around 6cm tall, so you can easily fit it on your desk. Even my cluttered desk had no problems at all. The unit is quiet, but it obviously has a fan as it's a big drive, and they usually heat up to about 35 degrees Celsius, which is quite hot really. There are small vents on the bottom of the drive.
This is very easy to install too: just connect it to the USB socket on the PC, and you're away; and registering is simple too, and this drive will work nicely on both Windows XP and Vista, as this weekend I made a complete backup of both drives, leaving me with 900GB of space to play with. I suspect this will work with a Mac, I will dig mine out and let you know, I really don't see why this wouldn't work, as it's just a plug n play USB mass storage device, and Macs can deal with big drives. The only problem might be NTFS, but that is easily formatted into HFS+ if needed.
This is a good product, sturdy and not too large, simple for just carrying around with you. I think this would be superb for a family, or to add to a media hub which allows USB connectivity to a hard disk. You can literally fit hours of HD footage on here without breaking a sweat, and the transfer recorded 35MB/s in Windows Vista, so I don't think you'll have much problem. In one hour I managed to put on nearly 150GB, so it's quite fast.
Worth a look for sure, a brilliant device.
I suggest this Hama Universal Case for External Hard Drives, size M, Black to go with it.
I will add some pics soon.
