The drive itself looks nice. But 3 months in it has started to make clicking noises, and data rate suffers when it starts clicking. I believe this is indicative of imminent failure. Unfortunately, i'm clearly not the only one seeing this problem with this drive. I would maybe look elsewhere.

I bought this product on 04.08.2009.
I had previously owned an ALDI MEDION 540GB
Had never had any problems with it
Needed a larger hard drive
Didn't see the point of going for a 1TB when had almost 900 GB on previous HD and computer
Opted for 1.5TB instead as would last for the foreseeable future
Opted for Seagate Expansions 1.5TB External Desktop USB 2.0 Hard Drive
Big mistake
After only a few weeks of usage hard drive started to omit a clicking noise
Now when in use, every minute or so it starts making a 'clicking' noise and data transfer comes to a grinding halt
Independent reviews of external hard drives suggest that when they begin to click it is the beginning of the end i.e. a total failure
I can only hope and pray I manage to salvage the 1000 GB of data on it before it finally packs up
I am now returning it to Amazon

First one started clicking & clunking after a few hours. Asked Amazon for a replacement, which turned up very promptly. This one did exactly the same after just one day. Did a bit of research on the net & it seems this model is a big problem for Seagate. So sent this one back & asked for a refund. Will be buying a different brand sometime soon. All credit to Amazon, not their fault & they sent replacements & refunds very quickly. Wont deter me from continuing to shop with Amazon.

Clicked to death
Like others, started clicking, still functioned long enough for me to get the data off, and then died. Returned to Seagate for replacement. Read more

Don't bother

Doomed Hard Drive

Worst external HD i ve ever bought
