1.0 out of 5 stars Stay AWAY if you value your data!, 24 July 2009

I'd heard all the horror stories AFTER I'd bought this drive.
The 1st one I bought failed the 1st time I used it so I took it back for an exchange. The 2nd drive worked OK until 2 weeks ago when it started clicking and just died.
I've done some reading and I'm not the only one, apparently this model is a disaster and Seagate have since pulled it off the shelves.
    Don't do it.
I've lost years of vidoe's and pictures etc, it's too late for me but you can still save yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars It just.....well, it just works!, 19 April 2009
By Jason (Warwickshire, England) - See all my reviews
You actually get around 1.36TB free. The drive is initially formatted as NTFS, but since I wanted to use this via my Xbox 360, I was able to format it to FAT32. I now have my entire video collection on the drive, with plenty of room to spare. You can never have too much storage space.

The 'pattern' on the front of the drive is actually the status light of the drive. As daft as it sounds, I didn't realise that until it got dark in my lounge.

In use, the drive is fast and very quiet. Even after 12+ hours of constant use, the case doesn't get hot, just warm. It detects when you plug the USB connection into an 'active' device (PC, Xbox 360 etc) and will switch on automatically. Likewise, switching off an 'active' device will result in the drive automatically shutting down.

The drive will also go into a low-power standby mode when you haven't accessed data from it for a while, this time-period can be changed by you via the supplied software. This software will also let you sync/backup data from your PC.

    All in all, I'm impressed.

    4.0 out of 5 stars 6 weeks usage review, 29 May 2009
By S. Hemmings (UK) - See all my reviews

I've used this 1.5TB Seagate USB drive for 6 weeks with no problems at all. Worked straight from the box on XP, and includes the option of using the included back-up software if required, which is pre-loaded on the disc.

Improvement on my earlier 500GB FreeeAgent as it can be stood flat on the desk or on edge on its stand, though they get very hot if run horizontal so better not to put another on top. Squirly light on the front is a bit excessive but not a problem.

Excellent value at the time of purchase. Recommended by me.
