saw this at the italian film festival and it stayed with me, so can't wait to see again on dvd. Sweeping Sicilian locations, great acting by a cast of Italy's most talented and gorgeous actresses and very, very moving - the film is based on a true story. Angela, played by Valeria Solarino, is such a memorable individual - but learns the hard way that growing up female in 19th century Sicily isn't easy. She falls passionately in love with her best friend and sees no reason why they shouldn't be together. Won't spoil the ending, but basically, they find a way of being 'man and wife' and are accepted by the community. I also loved the backdrop of Italian Unification, feudal work practices, the nature of independence and the hypocrisy of the 'Establishment'.
