It started with "Two Frogs" by Chris Wormell, which gripped my 3-year old son to the point that he and his 4.5 year-old brother insisted on having it read to them at bedtime every night for some months (no exaggeration). Wormell's style of story-telling is simple and the books are accompanied by drawings that grab children's imagination like nothing else I have read to/with them.

I added "The Sea Monster" to their large collection of books this Christmas and the same thing has happened. They seem to love it just as much and it has inspired me to write my first review on Amazon.

I couldn't recommend this book more highly for children moving up from the Gruffalo genre onto the next level.

This book has become a firm favourite in our household. My son loves the story of the sea monster and spends ages examining the illustrations.
Briefly, the story is of a boy whose small toy boat drifts out to sea. He tries to retrieve the boat but is swept out into the ocean. Just as he is drowning a rock(top of the sea monster's head)comes out of the water. He stays on this until he is saved by a fisherman. He doesn't rescue his boat but it is found by the sea monster who keeps it at the bottom of the ocean.
The characters in the book are great and the depiction of the sea monster is wonderful.
I would recommend this book for children throughout the primary age range.
