This book is the secon instalement in the "Glass" series. If you haven't already read the first one then click this link-Storm Glass (Opal Cowan Trilogy - Book 1) (MIRA)
The second book continues straight away from the first and shows Opals struggle to get people to believe her about Ulrick and Devlen. But when everyone she trusts turn their backs on her she has to figure out a way to save Sitia-alone
When even the mighty soalfinder,Yelena, doesn't believe her who will she turn to...
Why are there assassination attempts on her, everywhere she goes...
She loves Kade. But why does she keep on thinking about Devlen...

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I cannot wait until the third book is released in September 2010, where I think Opal will have to make a difficult decision between a Stormdancer and an ex-Warper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second Instalment is another hit! 27 Oct 2009
By L. M. Cowan VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
Another excellent instalment by M.V Snyder! While I have to admit the first few chapters of the story were a struggle as I tried to get my head back into the story we left behind in Storm Glass, the book quickly gained pace and excitement.

The plot, as usual was full of interesting twists and I very much enjoyed Opal's gradual character development throughout; she became a real heroine in Sea Glass. It was lovely to meet all of the familiar cast again too, particularly the extended visits from Janco. A thoroughly enjoyable read, from a highly recommended series.

With a completely unexpected ending, I can't wait for the third book in the series!

I think this book is probably best described as a guilty pleasure. I like it but I know I really, really shouldn't.

Opal is annoying. She's utterly immature - she storms off to her room and hides under a blanket when she gets upset at one point - and sometimes just unbelievable (when she meets her ex to talk about him swapping bodies with someone else she is far too reasonable - you can't help but feel that she should be spitting blood at him for his stupidity, even if you accept that he didn't know it was someone who was going to torture her)

Occasionally there's a pass me the sick bag moment (eg something cheesy as hell about wanting to be back 'in his long, lean arms') or something that's phrased really awkwardly, with Opal pontificating on something to another character when it would be really more appropriate as just description and it makes my toes curl.

However, I couldn't put the darn thing down! I kept wanting to know what was going to happen next, and whether Opal was going to stop being so wet, so despite it's faults I will be reading the sequel.

2.0 out of 5 stars not the most thrilling Part 2 21 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
If you managed to finish the first book, and it drove you mad with Opal's indecisiveness and how easy it was for her to switch emotions - this book will torment you more because it is just slow..slow! The author keeps refering back to the Study series and it makes me wonder why I am reading such a poor substitute, i want to read the Study series again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost in a sea of glass 15 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
Opal Cowan's newfound power to steal the magic of another makes her too powerful, and too dangerous, in the eyes of the Council. Forced to return to the keep, Opal plots her escape to find the man who can prove her sanity. But although she knows Ulrick switched bodies with Devlen, everyone believes Opal has been taken in by an elaborate lie. With no proof and few allies, Opal must learn to trust herself especially as everyone now wants a piece of her powers for their own gain.

This is the second book in the Glass trilogy (the first being Storm Glass and the third is Spy Glass). I read and loved the first so I grabbed this one off my shelf pretty much as soon as I was done, and I must say I wasn't disappointed. Having read Maria V. Snyder's other trilogy (Poison Study, Magic Study and Fire Study) I knew that the plot for this trilogy would twist and turn and end up in a completely unexpected place, and so far it has done just that.

The plot of this book continues straight on from its predecessor but is full of twists and turns. There is a strong political focus as Opal realises that her skill at creating glass messengers is revolutionising Sitia, and that she no longer has any choice about continuing her work.

4.0 out of 5 stars What do I think? 18 May 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Sea Glass - After picking up a copy of Storm Glass at Heathrow, I was really looking forward to seeing how the character 'Opal Cowan' developed and I wasn't disappointed. The only real critisism I have is the book wasn't long enough!

2.0 out of 5 stars Young adult caliber, not great. 7 Mar 2011
By Mme Hmm
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have read young adult fiction that has more depth than this. I bought the first book, and the first half was good. The second half (of Storm Glass) was awful, like the author couldn't figure out how to end the story, and just wanted to fill more and more pages so the book would be longer. This problem continues in Sea Glass. I could barely get through the first couple chapters, skimming and groaning at the monotony and predictability.

My main gripe is that the author spoils her own plot quite often. For instance, a character is taken captive by another character, after a fight. The captor is narrarating, and in the narraration (speaking to the reader) she says somethig like "If only I had known that in a few hours, we would be in exact opposite positions". GREAT, thanks a lot... now I know what's going to happen! And yet I have to sit through another chapter of her laying out the action, all the while knowing how it's going to end, having the suspense totally spoiled. I'm sorry, but this author needs a new editor, and fast. Not since I was 12 have I read a book that did something like that. What's the point? Maybe I should just read the book backwards, is that it?

Also, as in Storm Glass, the author keeps spending loads of time having her characters alluding to events that happened in her 'Study' series, so basically she is spoiling that entire series for anyone who hasn't yet read them (myself). Yes, the first series was successful... but the author is trying to scrape by with a new series, while the characters in the 'new' series just rehash events in the old one.

Shoddy writing, empty characters, recycled plot from the first book. Need I say more? 2 stars only because a preteen might enjoy this book.
