Wasn't sure what to expect when trying to mod the cooler of my Graphics Card.

This product is excellent. easy enough to remove the stock cooler, clean the gpu and polish up the contact points.

For the 4870 i needed to use a copper plate (provided) between the gpu and cooler as there would be a gap otherwise, this worked fine but the cooler now has some movement (the cooler base moves in relation to the gpu) which is not ideal, but considering the cooler is inside the case where it cannot be touched so it does not move unless i move it myself. I have moved it a few times but this caused no issue with graphics or any change in temp.

Small heat spreaders for ram chips were easy to stick in place after removing the stock one.

I have ran stress tests (which could not complete with the stock cooler) (gpu cuts off at 109 degrees) with the stock cooler idle temp was 64deg(dispio), 85deg(memio), 67deg(shadercore) With load, temp was 88, 108, 96.

With the Scythe cooler results are a big difference. Idle, 48, 60, 54. Load, 62, 75, 69.

My Radeon 4870 was almost rubbish before I got this, now it performs well in any game.

Also, the noise of the stock cooler was shockingly loud, i'm relieved this works well with the 2 fans dialed down to slower speed, although with the 2 fans running at full speed the noise is almost un-noticable next to my psu fan, so i leave the fan speed up.

This thing works great on my PNY 9800GT 30 May 2009

Make sure you get some thermal adhesive if you get this. The tape on the back side of the heat sinks really sucks.... I ended up using the adhesive to put the heat sinks on the memory modules. Also its kinda tedious getting everything to fit just right. before you go and install the cooler to the card make sure you have room for the power to the card. I had to take mine all apart and add the copper spacer to it so I could install the power wire... and just a hint... Check out Micro Centers price on this instead of the price on here. This does work good though!!! I was at an idle temp of about 70 degs C... Dropped to 40 degs at idle with the fans set on high. about 45 with the fans on low. It was a big change in temp. I'm going to look for another cooler for my other 9800GT that I have in another machine and try it out.... One other thing... I barely had enough room for may sata cables to plug into the mother board... Make sure you have room!!!!

It doesn't cool as much as you think it would for the price. Don't buy this to replace the stock cooler unless the stock is broken... and even then, you should really just consider a new video card.
