As a previous reviewer stated, the book comprises all sorts of common-sense etiquette that divers would do well to follow. But the manner in which each of the stories is delivered is very abrasive and about as fun-sucking to read as the authors claim it is to dive with ill-mannered people.
The whole thing reads as a long rant involving situations that could be much better handled by simply communicating with your fellow divers. Honestly, everyone is a newbie at some point and no one can know how to handle every possible situation. What better way to learn than by being open with your dive buddies and letting them know when they're doing something rude or just plain dangerous?
I'm not sure who these people are diving with, but I've always loved associating with divers because they manage to walk the line between being very laid back about their time and experience and very serious about their gear and safety. And they LOVE sharing their knowledge and experience, always trying to convert people over to the sport. But, I tend to dive while on vacation where everyone and everything runs on island time. Maybe that colors my experience.
And yes, I know the very title of this book has the word "snob" in it and should probably have tipped me off. My fault for not realizing. If you're looking for a very serious, no nonsense view of diving, yeah, maybe this is for you. But, if you are expecting any type of humor or compassion for people who just don't know any better, this just isn't it.
