Product Description

Disgraced scholar Dennon Lark only wants to be left alone in his self-imposed exile—an exile that ends when a rebel army wielding impossible powers launches a series of brutal attacks on villages across the Kingsland.

Forced from his home, Dennon is drawn back into a world he wants nothing to do with. His research into the kingdom's lost past—the very research that sent him into hiding—may hold the answers to a great many questions about the rebels. Questions about their shadowy motives; about their mysterious abilities; and about their ever-increasing numbers, constantly bolstered by those thought killed in their attacks. And only the King's infamous warrior niece Bryndine Errynson and her company of female soldiers trust him enough to help him find the truth before the rebels burn the Kingsland to the ground.

Following a trail of historical clues across the kingdom and pursued by forces they don't fully understand, Dennon and Bryndine may be the realm's only hope. But in order to preserve the Kingsland's future, they must first uncover its past.

I loved this book. The characters came alive for me and I found it one of those unusual books where I actually missed them when I finished.

I was hooked from start to finish. A very well written story which was well paced throughout.

I'm another one who's going to keep an eye open for more books from this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me hooked. Loved this. 4 Mar 2012

What a fantastic find!

I have really enjoyed reading this, and I have found myself picking it up whenever I had a moment to spare this week. It's a very satisfying read. The characters are well drawn and the storyline is well rounded. Also, the author makes a good decision in letting his characters move great distances without us having to watch every journey. It means the story is fast paced and never tedious. I look forward to there being a sequel set in the same world.

For some reason i just could't get into this book to begin with, the counter on my kindle was only creeping up very slowly. I mean, who really wants to read a story where the lead character is the person who writes about things rather than running around hitting people?
Then at about 8% in it suddenly started flying up and in the end i didnt want it to finish. I really did grow attached to the man who hides under tables when everyone else is fighting. It did turn out to be a good book and well worth the 4 to 5 stars it keeps getting, well worth a read for anyone yet to spend the £2 on it. I for one will be looking for the authors next book.
