This is a tremendouus performance of an interesting selection of Scriabin. One early Sonata No 2, the 5th that introduced Scriabin's more advanced style, and the 9th "the Black Mass", as well as a selection of early Etudes and Mazurkas.
There are plenty of rivals of the highest quality including Horowitz and Richter, but young Sudbin on this showing is their equal in this repertoire which for me makes this a must buy CD. If you are new to Scriabin this is a good introduction, good examples of his ornate Chopin influenced early works and his highly original later style on one CD
The notes are enthusiastic and personal, perhaps as the other reviewer says over the top, but better than some of the anodyne material we get these days
Recording as CD is superb, makes me want to buy a SACD to see how it could be better
