If you go on Google, you'll find that Olli Mustonen sometimes infuriates critics because of his wayward. headstrong interpretations. There is no such problem with this program! Scriabin was a bizarre, if talented, composer, and this program is a good introduction to his highly interesting, if slightly weird, world. Early Scriabin sounds somewhat like Chopin, and late Scriabin is more renminiscent of Debussy. His music is difficult to bring off, both technically and musically, but Mustonen succeeds. His choice of recital pieces ignore the composer's middle period and sticks with the early and late stuff, but quite successfully. Strongly recommended, for those who are interested in good pianism and this rarely-heard composer.
