About Screwpull Oilman Herbert Allen, a prolific inventor, developed the Screwpull corkscrew. Born in Texas, to poor parents, he made his mark (and fortune) inventing tools for the oil industry and parts for jet engines. In 1951 he travelled to Europe where he tasted wine for the first time. One taste quickly turned into a passion and over the next 20 years, Herbet Allen assembled one of the best wine cellars in Texas.
His work on Screwpull began in 1975. The impetus for the invention came from Mr Allen’s wife who had a particularly frustrating experience opening a bottle of wine. After trying a number of different corkscrews, all unsuccessfully, she gave up and presented her husband with the engineering challenge of a lifetime: to produce a corkscrew that would extract the cork effortlessly and perfectly every time.
In 1979 the Screwpull Table Model was born. It was based on the simple premise that a cork could be removed from the bottle without force, injury or embarrassment, and was an instant hit. Here was a beautifully designed corkscrew that fitted over a bottle’s neck. The Teflon coated screw was easily driven into and through the cork, thus ensuring the cork is removed intact without pulling.
Since 1979, wine connoisseurs and enthusiasts around the world have enjoyed the unrivalled performance, superb quality and outstanding design pf Screwpull corkscrews and wine accessories. Screwpull is well known for its famous corkscrews such as the Table Model and the much coveted Lever Model. The self-pulling principle of the design means that only the minimum of effort is required to remove the cork from the bottle. The range of ingenious corkscrews is complemented by a selection of innovative and stylish wine accessories. From opening a bottle, to serving drinks, to preserving wine, Screwpull products make every moment of the wine drinking experience a pleasure.
Today the Screwpull brand name is recognised world wide for its efficiency and unique designs, with products being sold in nearly every industrialised nation. Many new products have been developed since the introduction of the Table Model all following the tradition of simplicity, style and performance. The range has earned a reputation with discerning consumers and wine connoisseurs alike as probably the best and most innovative wine accessories in the world.
