You dont need to be a guitar enthusiast or a fan to experience the sheer genius of Mark Knopfler that this collection tellingly brings home. This album is a gem that's been hidden away for too long. If you enjoy instumental music then this one absolutely *must* be one in your collection. There's a touch of folk to many of the tracks and Mark Knopfler has partnered with greats like Paul Brady to produce some of the best in there. Oh and remember, the first few times you listen to this, make sure you're in a place and time you'd want to remember much much later . . . this album does that to you - brings back the sights, the smells and the sounds of the place where you first listened to it!!

Knopfler has written one or two soundtracks and the ones featured on Screenplaying demonstrate that he not only understands melody but how to use an orchestra. I've always looked upon Knopfler's lyrics as an accompaniment to his tunes, and in some cases they are downright weak, but on Screenplaying there are no lyrics to hamper his lilting tunes, supported by his ubiquitous but atmospheric pipes. Everywhere the Scottish & Irish influence can be heard in abundance, and hearing Local Hero again is a pleasure.

Few people have never at least heard of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler, or hummed along to one of the many smash hits and fantastic instrumental soundtracks that this musical genius (thought by some to be one of the three best guitar virtuosos in the western world) has brought to life over the last decades. This album contains the cream of Knopfler's soundtrack writing, including such memorable classics as "Going home" (from "Local Hero") and "Fairytale love" (from "The Princess Bride"). All in all, a classic album well worth investing in, especially if you don't own all the back-catalogue of soundtracks. If you want to know more about this man, more recent releases include the soundtrack to "Wag the dog" as well as the solo albums "Sailing to Philadelphia" and "Golden Heart".

A chance to catch up with music we have heard in the past and enjoyed. We were not disappointed, a lovely cd.

A favorite in our house
This is a beautiful collection of music and we love it as bedtime music for our toddler.

Disappointing
I bought this CD because (a) Mark Knopfler is my favourite guitarist ever, and (b) I liked the theme song of the Princess Bride movie. Read more
