The Travelling Band's second album is a bit of a departure from the mostly laid-back alt. country sounds of their excellent first outing "Under The Pavement".
The superb songwriting skills and musicianship of the band are still very much to the fore, but this selection of tracks should also appeal to a wider audience, including listeners who are more orientated towards rock and 'Indie' outfits.
While still retaining a flavour of their country rock origins, the ensemble have this time infused a more upbeat, bouncy approach to the songs. The result is not bland pop, but music which has emotional depth within the rich multi-instrumental sound created over several months (years?) of recording and mixing.The songs however, still sound fresh and immediate.Everyone will choose their own favourites from a very fine selection of mostly self-penned numbers.
The vocals and harmonisation are again top-notch, as is the clarity and quality of the overall production. This very talented group of musicians certainly deserve the critical acclaim, and hopefully commercial success, enjoyed recently by bands such as Mumford & Sons, and Noah & The Whale. But I wouldn't want to pigeon-hole them in a genre with other bands - they have their own identity.
The only thing to add is that hopefully it will not take the lads another two and a half years to get their next album released!

Whilst approaching the main arena at this years Cropredy festival I became aware of some particularly beautiful music floating across the fields towards me. Having been enticed to move up a gear and get front of stage as quickly as possible my friends and I witnessed a superb live performance by the excellent Travelling Band. Everybody spoke about this striking performance throughout the rest of the festival and on trying to obtain a copy of the album, there and then, we discovered they were sold out and for good reason.
For a young band who astoundingly have yet to be discovered in the wider sense this album contains some superb musicianship,beautiful harmonies and crafted guitar playing. Like their live performance the band glide effortlessly between rocky foot tapping tunes to thoughtful folk ballads. I for one am now waiting to see them live again this Winter and will be looking for more recorded material.

Got this as an Amazon recommendation after buying some Danny and the Champions of the World CDs. It's a classy little record full of infectious tunes, very much in the twangy guitar Americana style. There are catchy hooks, excellent harmonies and some really great lyrics that makes this a delightful listen. There's nothing that quite lodges in the mind and really stands out as a classic track, so in all 4 stars.

Saw this band at Cropredy. The CD is well produced and there are plenty of tunes to gad about to. The dear wife can't stop playing it.
