Book Description

Can love be found in the arms of a kidnapper?

Running away from a complicated life, Raleigh finds herself plunged into a nightmare. While hitchhiking across the country, she and her companion are struck by a car. Her friend is killed but Raleigh survives and her life is thrown into the hands of the three men involved in the accident. Bruised and in shock, Raleigh is locked in the basement of their remote country house, unsure of her fate.

Kaden, one of her captors, is handsome and at times protective, and he convinces his friends to spare Raleigh’s life to ransom her. But the safety he provides is only from his friends, and Raleigh must face his sinister intentions. Agreeing to become his lover in return for continued protection, she begins to see a tender and caring side of Kaden despite their short but violent history. As the ransom payment begins to unravel and Raleigh's life hangs in the balance, she wonders how much she can trust Kaden. Are the feelings she has developed for him genuine or a result of her situation? Does he truly care for her, as he claims, or does he just see her as a ransom payment?

Screaming in the Silence is the harrowing, provocative story of a woman testing love in the most hostile of environments. It is a story you will never forget. Now, with a new, never-before read Epilogue, Screaming in the Silence is the official published version of the Internet hit that has been read hundreds of thousands of times.

5.0 out of 5 stars The summary does not do this book justice. 16 Jun. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Sometimes you pick up a book and think "do I really want to read this"? this is how I began with Screaming in the Silence but from page 1 was hooked, drawn into an incredible story of survival, hope and love.

The book summary does not do this book justice. It is misleading as the story is much more complex than implied in this summary. It is a physiological suspense so I will try and do this book the justice it deserves.

I absolutely loved this story - it captivated me. I started it and did not put it down until the last page.

The story begins - Raleigh Winter wakes up in the back of a car. It is speeding and suddenly something rolls on top of her. It is Julie a fellow hitchhiker. Julie is dead and Raleigh remembers that they were hit by a car, their bodies collected and dumped in the back of the truck. The three men thought both of them were dead and are not happy to find that Raleigh is very much alive. Raleigh Winter is also deaf and communicates with sign language. What follows is a unbelievable emotional journey that she did not expect to travel. She is imprisoned and stuck with three men who find themselves in an impossible situation. One wants to kill her, one wants her to survive and one wants to protect her.

Her captors, Kaden, Ray, and Marshal are not career criminals that the summary leads you to believe. Neither are they rapists seeking their next victim. She is not kidnapped, raped and then she falls in love with her rapist. The story is not that simple..

It is s a very different approach to finding love and Lydia Kelly spun this so well and did not let anyone off the hook. This is a story with many conflicts, emotional, violence and rape. Rape is rape and the reader is not allowed to forget that at any point.

A conflicting and emotional read. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would.

By An avid reader. TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
"Your enjoyment only adds to my pleasure, but don't forget that I'm forcing you to do this." So eloquently put, its these reminders that won't let you forget the circumstances and keep you enthralled to find out more.

This is an emotionally conflicting book, you know the circumstances aren't right and yet you feel yourself drawn just like Raleigh to Kaden. Is it another case of Stockholm Syndrome or is there more? Without any spoilers I think the end result was totally fitting.

I felt very drawn to Raleigh, was that out of pity for her circumstances and her disability or just her circumstances? In truth I am not sure, I cringed at some of the things said about her and felt very protective to hear such nasty words and it kinda actually made me like Kaden even more because he could see beyond it and yes I was surprised to find myself liking him at some points. I really enjoyed this book, there is some annoying typo's but beyond that if you like this kind of subject, it is a tense and absorbing read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody Hell! This is good. 14 Feb. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not entirely sure why I'm reading kidnap stories, but I seem to be gravitating towards them and this was sensational.
I'm so glad the Epilogue was there to read because it gave excellent closure to the story. I think I'd have felt bereft without it.

It's an excellent read. The writing is very good and there's enough drama to keep the pages turning. The relationship which develops between Caden & Raleigh appears utterly genuine and not Stockholm-ey at all. There are some really quite tender moments throughout her ordeal and I did feel immersed in the story, which is exactly what I look for in a book. It draws you in & won't let you put it down.

It's not too dark, but obviously it covers a sensitive subject, with non-consensual sex, but it isn't brutal.

This is my first read from this author & I'd definitely read something else from L Kelly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Utterly amazing!! 5 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really don't know how to justify this book. Probably the best way is to tell other readers to go read it because it was that amazing. I was so gripped by the story I couldn't sleep until I'd finished the book.

Although the story is based on a kidnap, with Kaden one of the kidnappers, his feeling for Raleigh are so heart felt. He makes mistakes in their relationship, but the way he cares for her and expresses his feelings are so loving. The book covers very difficult subjects but does it with such sensitivity.

This has now become my second favourite kindle book (hopeless being first) and have already been recommending it to others. The author has such a way of writing that you felt connected to the story and the characters. I will definitely be re-reading this one

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping! 25 April 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a very gripping story, not at all predictable like many others I have rea. Lydia has really built up the individual personalities of the characters, a lot of thought has clearly gone into this novel.

However, there are a lot if typos and general errors in this book. Some might say that it's distracting, personally this rarely bothered me at all. It's worth ignoring a few mistakes for a good read in my opinion!

Many thanks to Lydia Kelly for a truly gripping read!
