This book is perfect if you want to learn new techniques, find new ways to make pages, challenge yourself and bring the fun back to scrapping. It gives masses of creative and messy ways to get involved in your pages and never fails to get me inspired. I'd go so far as to say one of the best scrapbooking books there is becasue it isn't teaching you to design a page or challenging you to scraplift, instead it is a huge encouragement to enjoy yourself and get artistic with your scrapping.

I'm not a scrapbooker, but I thought this had some lovely ideas in for all mixed media artists - I especially like the 'touchy-feely' section, which has some brilliant designs for fabric book pages - excellent book!

I thought that this book would give me some great "artsy" ideas that think outside of the rather worn out and boring 1990's scrapbook style. But no. As I worked my way through the book I became increasingly frustrated by the examples of techniques that, frankly, look like junk produced with no skill. Very sloppy and messy ideas that make for a distracting confusing scrapbook. No thanks.

HASH(0xa0231f24) out of 5 stars Gorgeous and Wonderful book! 22 Jan. 2008
By K. Solheim - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is my favorite book to date. I have long admired Ashley Calder as I spotted her distinctive style of scrapbooking in the pages of every major scrapbook magazine out there! She was part of the Autumn Leaves design team and ended up in several of their "Designing With" books as well as last year's Designing With Desk Calendar. I am always amazed at how unique her pages are.

This book is definitely for the scrapbooker who wants to do something a little different than her usual page. But I don't believe that traditional scrapbookers will not find this book useful; I think every type of scrapbooker can learn something from the techniques Ashley shares. Ashley's style is definitely freestyle/anything goes and almost always uses multiple photos in each layout. I know how hard it is to find good multiple photo sketches out there... there are some great ideas for how to scrap this way.

Ashley goes over 50 techniques and, while you do not get an in-depth overview of how to do watercolor or gold leaf, you get one example of using each new product with great pictures, tips and product lists.

The subtitle of this book is: 50 Messy, Sparkly, Touchy-Feely, Snazzy Ways to Jazz Up your Scrapbook pages. That's exactly what this is. I highly recommend the book for expanding your idea of scrapbooking.

HASH(0xa0645078) out of 5 stars Loved It! 26 Jan. 2008
By D. Johnston - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I'm not normally a fan of scrapbooking books - in fact, they usually dissapoint me! But this one is really amazing. I came into scrapbooking from studying collage and other altered arts in school. I love how much this book teaches you, and how REAL the author's pages are! Lovely, lovely book, I'm going to recommend it to all of my scrapbooking friends!

HASH(0xa021c1f8) out of 5 stars Something different. 3 Feb. 2008
By Lois Lain - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I agree that this book is "way out there," but I like that. It isn't your ordinary "fifty ways to use patterned paper on a layout" idea book. Instead, Ashley Calder introduces new materials and techniques, and shows you step-by-step how to incorporate them in your scrapbook.

I would not recommend this if you are a die-hard Creative Memories user who never lets anything with even a hint of acid touch her scrapbook's pages. But if you are willing to look outside the box, give it a go. I like Ashley's quirky style, even if I am a more traditional scrapper.

HASH(0xa010d8e8) out of 5 stars Love this Book 13 May 2008
By Pillar of Salt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I am a professional collage artist and I own many books on paper and collage and what to do with it. I LOVE this book. I never would have bought it for the "scrapbooking" content, but for the instructions and ideas for dressing up the paper yourself, it is truly a must have item. Great instructions, great photos, all easy to understand and wonderful and easy to do with easy to get art supplies. Messy and beautiful and real - a great step to personal journaling - which is why I purchased it.

HASH(0xa0450ad4) out of 5 stars Finally something that doesn't scream TRADITION 20 Jan. 2008
By Amy - Published on Amazon.com

This book is great for different ideas and ways to do things.

I'm always looking for a different funky touch to pull into my pages and make them my own and this book is full of them.

It's also nice that the book not only shows you ideas but lets you know now to execute them unlike a lot of other books.

In a world full of "traditional" scrapbooking how to's, this one is a must have for everyone who considers themselves to be outside the box.
