HASH(0x944a6918) out of 5 stars This is no ordinary scrapbook. 1 Jan. 2012

Scrapbook follows the life of Hannah Dormer, who starts as an akward young woman who spends her time scrapbooking the life of others as a way to escape her own. She meets a group of people that give her a sense of belonging. They too "scrapbook" the life of others, but this is no ordinary scrapbooking. They've taken what Hannah uses to create beautiful memories for others and turn it into something far more sinister than you can ever imagine. When Hannah stumbles onto their deep, dark secret she becomes conflicted, should she turn in the only people she cares about or keep their secret safe. With the FBI trailing right behind them, Hannah is running out of time. The books keeps you hooked till the very end and has a very surprising and exciting ending. Aimee Conner does such a great job at narrative that it paints a picture as you read along. Scrapbook is definitely a must read.

HASH(0x94b2884c) out of 5 stars A real page-turner! 6 Jan. 2012

This is a great book! The author skillfully follows the lives of the detective who is investigating the series of grisly murders and the innocent young girl who inadvertently becomes involved. Anyone who is a fan of suspense novels will not be disappointed with the graphic descriptions of heinous crimes or the skillful way the author weaves the diverse characters into the plot. The characters are believable and the dialogue is earthy and realistic. It's hard to believe that this is a first novel for Aimee Conner! I hope there are more to come!
HASH(0x94b288f4) out of 5 stars Thrilling- More Sinister than a "Cozy" Mystery- 1 April 2012

College Girl, Hannah, scrapbooks for her worth and has dreams of being a photographer. Her home life is sad. Her mother treats her badly, making her feel unloved and unwanted. Her sister, who has a very small part in this novel, is a beauty who competes in beauty pageants with all of her mothers support. Her dad loves her but takes sides with her mother over everything even though it makes him feel guilty. She has one close friend who is a guy but he wants a bit more from the relationship than she does so she doesn't warm to him completely. When she starts tutoring her boss' beautiful but "mean girls" type daughter, a new guy starts at the college they attend and rather than be enamored with Candy (boss' daughter), he immediately takes an interest in Hannah. More as a very close, concerned friend but this point in Hannah's life, this is what she needs. Someone who cares about her and her well being without expecting something in return. Without giving spoilers, The book gets a 4 star because I didn't like the ending... Just to say, another book should follow this one to continue the story- The ending should have been completely different in my opinion but even as it was written, it just seemed to be too abrupt and leaving out portions for the reader to deduct happenings that we are not told about. & although it seems all books have the "caught the guy" ending and "all is well"- this is a twist on that but could have still been done a bit differently. So, a well-written novel and a definite thriller set behind a "cozy facade". Great twist there too. A definite read.
HASH(0x943fff3c) out of 5 stars Cliche but good 11 Mar. 2012

I have a hard time reviewing horror/suspense stories mostly because their whole purpose for existence is to provide the reader with negative emotions. As someone who isn't a huge fan of novels of this type, I still enjoyed it.

This book was well researched, the various locations that are featured are very well described and the specific details really help immerse you in the story. I found the pacing to be very similar to episode of Law & Order, which I must admit I had a hard time getting into at first. Most of the twists in the story are pretty predictable. The gory murder scenes were absolutely terrifying. The serial killers are bit cliche. They have this image of being picture perfect on the surface which has been over done. Despite all this I couldn't put the book down! The characters are realistic. They are flawed people that are very easy to relate to. Hannah especially, there are times when I hated her so much and yet still found myself cheering her on. Another surprising element to the story is how it empowers victims of abuse!

Overall this is good read, I devoured it in two days. A few grammatical errors, but not enough to be too annoying.

Couldn't put it down. This is my four word review. What did I like most? Edge of your seat writing, short, pithy, engaging. Both the tight writing and quick chapters made it impossible to stop. It's like a roller coaster ride where the train pulls into the station and instead of getting off you ask the attendant if you can keep going around for the next chapter.

Having never read any of Miss Conner's works before I found her writing to have terrific pacing, fun characters, gruesome and real description that came at just the right time, with squemishness in small doses that wasn't so over the top that I wanted to give up on it. It's well worth the time and money and I'll be recommending it to all of my reading friends.

I look forward to Miss Conner's next works.
