I read the reviews, I love Scrabble, and wanted an 'indulgent' present for Christmas.
Given the price of this I could not justify buying it myself, so was very pleased to be given this.
On initial inspection it looks ok - nice and heavy, definitely made of wood, and seemingly robust.
On playing and further scrutiny however we were sorely disappointed:
The tiles were all of varying sizes, poorly finished, and the letters were not clear in some cases.
The racks barely elevate the tiles - you cannot slide them around and rearrange them without them repeatedly falling on the table.
The board finish is not great - the printed parts are so obviously all stuck on, and you can see the joins, and the raised divisions between sections are really quite tacky.
The wooden casing itself if poorly thought out, and quite obviously a 'universal' board game interior as there are numerous superfluous slots.
The drawstring bag for the tiles does not stay shut.
Another flaw in the design is that, given the raised surface to this game, if you were to leave it out for prolonged periods of time it would become dusty and impossible to clean easily. This could've been recified with a reversible lid.
So, to summarise: great idea, poorly executed. This is sadly being returned, and we will resume play on our well-worn entry level board, mounted on to a lazy susan, held in place with a little blu-tack! It's a shoddy set-up, but it's certainly better than wasting £70 on something that resembles a GCSE woodwork project.
To add to the disappointment, returning this via Yodel has proven to be a most irritating endeavour, but thankfully Amazon have thoroughly noted this and I believe are addressing.
