Shocking, funny, sad, thought provoking, deeply moving. The story of this expedition is so well known, but the journal has to be read to understand (!) why these men did it.
In 100 years, perhaps readers will view the astronauts of today in the way that we view Scott, Amundsen and Shackleton. Lack of knowledge and poor equipment are the least of the shocking revelations when viewed with modern eyes.
