By I. Giles TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is much better than I was expecting. What I was expecting was simply some lovely location photography, as seen on previews, but what is actually presented photographically is an in-depth survey of each of the 45 featured castles where there are many finely detailed interior shots supplied as well.

This is not intended to be a definitive survey of all known castles in Scotland. Instead it is a detailed study of 45 favourites and presented in the book in geographical / political regions. The photography works in tandem with plenty of informative script provided by Cameron Brown who proves to be an easily readable guide. This should appeal to many with a casual interest in castles as well as those with a deeper interest. There is a usefully detailed timeline at the start which sets everything in context.

A fine book and highly recommended.

First class! 28 April 2008
Format:Hardcover
This superb book is beautifully presented and written, and the photography is simply stunning. Valuable as a reference book for the Scots historian and casual reader alike. Great value, and a worthy addition to the library!

Wow! 28 April 2008
By Kemlo
Format:Hardcover
What an astonishingly beautiful book! A friend sent me a copy as a present, and when I began leafing through it I was rendered almost speechless. The photography's absolutely fabulous, but it's the design and presentation that let you see how good the photographs are. Once I'd calmed down enough to read the book, I found the text lived up to the rest of it all.

I haven't been back to Scotland, the land of my birth, for far too many years. This book makes it likely the long-promised holiday there will happen sooner rather than later. First, though, I'm making a list of friends who'd enjoy the book as much as I do so I can order a stack of copies as gifts.
