This book will never make the "best-seller" list, but it is a vital resource for those interested in local history in Scotland. After an introduction to civic (rather that family) heraldry, all town, city, burgh and county achievements (coats of arms) are illustrated and their blazons stated, along with historical information. Of course, local government reorganization in 1974 made many of these arms obsolete, but a follow-on volume is also available. It would have been nice if historical burghs (e.g. Old Aberdeen) had also been included. The book is available in new condition at bargain price.
