This book on Scotlands ships traces the story of shipbuilding on the Clyde from prehistory to 1971 but really starts with the Great Michael (1507-21
Following a chapter on history, rise and fall of shipbuilding there is a section on Scotlands earliest ships. These are followed by chapters on various ships eg.Lusitania,Hood,Queen Mary and Vanguard. These sections are well written and researched.
There is a good time line but the pictures and illustrations are of very poor quality. The lists of colour plates and illustrations although numbered give no page numbers.
This book is adequate for what it is but the subject requires much more detailed study. It is far too expensive and can not be recommended.
