5.0 out of 5 stars So good I'm reading it again., 4 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I first read this book while preaparing for a trip to Scotland in 1999. It was a wonderful read, each page supplemented by historic documents, photographs and paintings. MacLean clearly had a lot of fun putting this book together.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still a classic, 25 Sep 2009
By Tom (Scotland) - See all my reviews
Sir Fitzroy Maclean, soldier, diplomat and author made his own contribution to Scotland's history during the second half of the 20th Century. His wide knowledge and clear enjoyable writing style make this a book to keep at hand for answers on Scotland's story. There are heavier, stodgier, and (after 40 years) more colourfully illustrated tomes available but for a concise, clear answer, this still repays the first reach.
